Have been visiting this cemetery for over 40 years and have always been impressed with how well the property was maintained, until today. The grass had not been cut for at least two weeks, there was trash blowing all over the place and weeds were everywhere. It looked awful. Definitely an embarrassment for the city of Boston.

Today my family and I went to the Ukrainian section of Mt. Hope Cemetery as we do several times a year. We were quite disappointed at how shabby the area looked. There were lots of weeds, unmowed grass, a few pieces of paper and some empty bottles. On the other hand, since it was Memorial Day, the small flags were placed in those areas reserved for the military. The grass was cut, and everything else was as neat as a pin. Perhaps the landscapers who took such great care of THESE graves and areas, with heavy viewing on a day such as today, should pay closer attention to their work in those sections where foot travel isn't so extensive. Perhaps the next time I pay a visit, the area will look much more cared for.

Super disappointed!!!!. Went to my great grandmothers grave and planted some plants and bulbs 2 weeks ago. Went back today to water them only to find that my plants were ripped out of the ground and missing and all of my bulbs had been weed wacked or mowed to nubs about an inch tall. Too lazy to go around them? Heart breaking!! No respect!!!!!. Hope someone treats they're deceased loved ones with more respect than mine were treated.

Who is responsible for keeping the grounds around the headstone free of weeds, leaves, litter etc.

It's a public cemetery. So the city. They do the best they can. They re always on the upkeep. Most people who have family take up the responsibility of around the stone themselves.

Is there a burial database online for the Mt Hope Cemetery? Otherwise, I will make a phone call to inquire about someone buried there in 1948. Findagrave does not have her listed.
