Been into camping since I was a child. This one is overall one of the worst experiences… Booked this site for 2 nights. Got there at around 3 pm, first surprise was had to drive 7 miles of unpaved road to get to the camp site (don’t understand why they don’t pave it…). A ton of dust and ash, it’s worse than driving off-road. Then the campground was extremely dusty as well. Trails nearby were pretty cool, especially the Coder cone. But decided to leave after 1 night after feeling respiratory discomfort. Please do not bring your kids here. The facilities are good as you could expect from a National park. But know there is no shower.

Nice campground after a rough 6 mile road, However there are absolutely no rules or rangers here parties were going way past midnight everyone was ignoring the rules

Nice campground with decently sized campsites and shade. Very conveniently located near the lake, which many people were enjoying sitting by and swimming in. The lake is located right by the Cinder Cone trail, which is must do if you are a capable hiker (the home up is tough). Campground was full, but people were respectful. Would visit again.

Butte Lake campground in Lassen National Park is absolutely beautiful. I stay there forty years ago when I was a kid and just went back with one of my kids and it was wonderful. The road is a little rough and has you wondering if your in the right spot but is worth the drive. I recommend it to everyone and I look forward to going back again and again.

I have been told the big Jeffry Pines are all still there, so I think that’s good news and maybe the picnic tables etc. also survived.
We camped at Butte Lake Campground a couple of weeks ago, so it should still be open but I would recommend to make a reservation if possible (they have only one First-come First-Serve site as far as I could see on their website and most sites were booked but empty). Nice and quiet campground, I would highly recommend it. And also hiking should still be possible.
It will be open. There is a self pay station at the entrance. Cash only
