Last week my son was in a car accident. I do not live close so I was trying to help him through the event live as it was happening. Without requesting it, a tow truck arrived from Barbours Towing. They told my son they could either use their service as they had a contract with the RPD or we could call our own towing service. When my son asked multiple times how much it cost the tow truck driver did not answer the question and kept saying "don't worry, it will be covered and you will just need to pay fees once it is at their facility.". While we were on the phone we decided to go ahead and accept the service believing that any partnership with the RPD would be the best option for us. The next morning (< 16 hours from when they towed) we called to move the car across the street from their facility to the auto body shop and were told it would be $600 for the tow and storage and another $125 to tow it across the street. A total of $700+ for towing the car. Their business practices are unethical and my son felt he was pushed into using this service. I would never use them again and would suggest the Raleigh Police Department reconsider who they do business with.
