This was my first appointment, and I had a good experience. I wasn’t a fan of the picture taking before the appointment since they already have your license on file. Further, I didn’t see anyone look at it to “verify” my identity (as they stated up front) when I got to the back. Dr. Keast was very nice and knowledgeable, and so was his office “partner”. It was efficient having the doctors full attention while she took notes, and updated the digital chart. I also liked that they cleaned the equipment down in front of you before you used it, and the doctor cleaned his hands before touching my face. Those things are important to me, so I appreciated seeing them practiced. I highly recommend this institute (Hiawassee location) and Dr. Keast. The care I received was better than I anticipated.

So yesterday I had my last eye appointment at the Filutowski institute. Upon my arrival, I was ten minutes late. After which...I sat and waited an extra 45 minutes before being seen by Dr. Dempsey. When finally going in to have my eye examine, it was quick and brief. The device she used to examine my eye,.is the one you rest your chin on for a close up of the 👁️ after which...she said my eye looked okay and no issues. But I'm confused 🤔 because she never dilated my eye or anything like that, to know for sure if my eye were completely healed or that I no longer have any scaring. The only eye drop used in my eye, was before the fact...and to test my eye pressure. As for a follow up examination for scaring on my eye it was little to none. And because of my concern, I will follow up with my regular eye doctor to have my eye dilated again, to confirm that I have no more scaring. As for the overall service at the Filutowski Institute, it was outstanding! Doctor Gustavo did my cataract surgery and is a wonderful doctor.

This one week follow-up visit from cataract surgery on my right eye was very informative and instructional. The healing progress continues as anticipated by Dr. Munguba and as experienced by me. Filutowski Eye Institute is an extremely professional and efficient organization, one which I recommend without reservation.

Excellent staff. Dr Fil must be a genius to put together such a great service for this community. Eye sight being our most important and certainly the most appreciated sense we have, we all owe the good doctor our thanks.

What's the difference between lasik surgery and cataract surgery?

Noman Watkins | Sep 9, 2019

Hi Noman! LASIK is an elective procedure to help you see clearly without contacts or glasses. It is never necessary to have LASIK, people have it to improve their quality of life. Cataract surgery is a medically necessary procedure done to replace your natural lens in your eye once it has formed into a cataract. Put simply, people choose to have LASIK to improve their vision whereas cataract surgery solves a medical issue. LASIK is performed on the cornea near the surface of your eye. A laser is used to create a flap of your tissue and then another laser is used to reshape the curvature of your cornea. Changing how your cornea is shaped changes the way your eye bends light that enters it. In order to see without contacts or glasses, light needs to be bent to a precise spot on the back of your eye. During cataract surgery, the surgeon breaks apart and removes your cloudy lens and replaces it with a lens implant. It is more invasive and done in an operating room. Hope that helps!

I have 3 children needing eye exams and possibly eyeglasses. Is this a good fir for them (ages 10-17)? Thanks!
