I have always had a great experience dropping off larger refuse items in the large bay door area on North Bridge Street. This staff is very helpful. In regard to the front office on Canal Street - the individuals who answer the phone, and face you when you show up to the office - there is one great staff member and a firm, old school teacher type that slaps your hands with a ruler. The latter lacks the proper phone and in-person decorum to be an asset to the city. It is always a "fight" to get what you need from her. Get your boxing gloves ready! Other than this one staff member, they have a great staff on Canal Street.

I suggest calling the main office between 8:30am and 4:30pm to confirm that your card is active and that you have enough items available. There are limits on things like furniture and TV's but usually the customer can pay for more if needed. The facility is open for drop off on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30am to 2:30pm. They do close for lunch around noon
Most years it is available in June
Holyoke Community College???
The cost is free. However it is only available to home owners. You get the permit at the dpw office on Lyman st. The permit allows 7 trips to the transfer station each year
