This is not quite up to the quality of most National Park Campgrounds yet. I appreciate the primitive sites, and this one has much to value, such as access to a wide and slow moving New River. The sites are fine, and the new pit toilets …

My son and I stayed there on 10/20/21. I would have loved to shower but they were closed. Other than that the seclusion and river were wonderful! BEWARE: there is ZERO cell service within an hour of this campground in any direction.

The campground is beautiful. Fantastic views of the river from the beach area. Each campsite is nice and includes a fire ring, grill, and a picnic table. Plenty of trees to hang a hammock (like we did) and flat spots for tents. The drive in …

Yes. I am staying there now. Grandview Sandbar is also open. And one up around Thurmond. Only these 3 are open now.
I was just there yesterday and while river access is still permitted there are signs that state no camping. If the Greenbrier area is where you are staying I would recommend either the Greenbrier hotel or perhaps Snowshoe resort.
I was there 2 weeks ago, after camping there for 3 days, the forest ranger came and kicked everyone out!
Yes. I've been down there the past couple weekends and they have been pretty full of tents at Grandview Sandbar and at the Glade Creek campground. If your planning a weekend I'd try to get there early.
No. Park services has said if all goes well, should reopen in phase 3 of recovery some time this fall.
There are some local gas stations within 10 miles on Rt41 and Rt61 that both might sell some. Other than that, closest would be to go into Beckley to Kroger, Walmart, Lowes, or such. In any NPS campground in the park you are allowed to cut [with hand tools, no power tools] any DOWN dead wood there is. But no cutting of trees that are upright, dead or alive.
yes there is wheelchair fishing and camping areas, and wheelchair restroom access
