I originally entered the trails at the Deep Creek Park entrance and, to be honest, really hated it there. In many areas the grass was tall (watch where you step) or deep sand. I also found the trail markings (many are posted on trees) to be a little confusing and I took a couple of wrong turns. After exploring for about an hour, I left and went to the primary entrance where the old campground is located. It was only slightly better. Also, there is nothing interesting to see, although I was on the main entrance area trails for only a short while. There is plenty of parking at the main entrance in front of the gate, btw, something I couldn’t tell with certainty from other reviews. In general, there are plenty of other good trails in the area to visit before this one.

The campground by the entrance is closed. The picnic tables and some fire rings are still there but camping is prohibited at that site. Primative camping (hike/horse access only) is allowed by the river.

This is a fun hiking trail as long as you stick to the 'hiking and equestrian' paths. Awhile back I tried to enter at marker #17 and do the 'hiking' loop. It was rediculously dangerous and ankle breaking...many of the remarks on the paper at that entrance reflected the same feelings. But, of you stick to the trails #1 through #14, it's a pretty nice hike.

Really nice, quiet place. I suggest to park at the gate and walk in first to find the best place to drive your rig in because there are a lot of low hanging branches. You can park anywhere within that area but not beyond down the pathway. They have nice trails where we saw a large turtle. We also had a tagged female longhorn and her calf come into the campground, grazing. Not sure how they got here but they don't seem to mind us and we certainly won't bother them.
