I am now on my third separate dog ownership with this clinic. Every person there from Vet to Tech has always treated my dogs thoroughly and correctly, fixing what is fixable. What I found most surprising was the follow-up calls I get after the appointment checking to see if things are still okay, or delivering lab results personally. It's too bad human doctors can't behave the same way and have as much interest in me as the veterinarians have in my dog. I am fully insured and still can't get an appropriate diagnosis and treatment for an injury I sustained last year, yet the dog gets treated in detail each time I take her in there and doesn't require multiple follow-up visits for the same problem. The compassion and caring that this office shows to pet owners at the end of life rivals that of a human hospice. I absolutely recommend this clinic for competent professional animal care.

ALWAY'S loved this place.. (Dr Cristine especially) I gave two stars for Dr. Cole ONLY!! I don't want to go into to much detail..But, I will say "HE, NOT HIS WIFE" has lost his bedside manner completely!! Not actually sure if he ever had one but, I know the last couple times we had dealt with him with our sick animal, He was horrific!! I don't feel that he has ANY empathy for these animals that come in, Esp. those that are are gravely ill.. This is what my husband and myself experienced with him the few times we did have to have him see our sweet girl.. SADLY Our Angel has passed away.. We waited over year and now have a new puppy, And have to find a new place for her..I Personally think he needs to take a step back and either work less or just get out all together and, let the other technicians take over.. They are ALL AMAZING! His heart is NOT in this whatsoever.. We left there feeling so defeated, feeling at fault with our dog's illness and this was all because of the things that he said to us while he was "caring" for our little girl.. A very sad situation all around. And let me be EXTREMELY CLEAR... I DO NOT feel good leaving this review but, The truth is the truth.

Dr. Christina has cared for my kitties for many years, always with skill and compassion. She is thorough and treats my babies as if they are her own! For their annual appointment, I always come away with a kitty "report card" so I can remember the details of their visit. From the front office, to the caring vet techs, to the overall cleanliness of this wonderful neighborhood treasure, they certainly deserve my five stars!!

Questions & Answers

At Gulf Gate Animal Hospital, are you able to perform most necessary surgeries in house or do you prefer them out like many smaller vet clinics? Is one of your staff a qualified vetinary surgeon?

Not sure. You need to call them and ask. My guess would be yes they are qualified for most anything.

Who is the "best" cardiologist for dogs in Sarasota, Port Charlotte, Manatee or near by counties? My dog has a heart condition and I need the best. I have good pet insurance. .

You posted this question about Gulf Gate Animal Hospital. Dr Ed Cole takes care of my dog. He's a general practice vet with a subspecialty in cardiology and he is phenomenal. Also, when he's not avail, there are three other vets whom I trust. They do echocardiograms as well, so there is no need to find a specialized clinic that offers that. I have zero complaints with the care my dog receives and I wouldn't hesitate to go to see Dr Cole again if another pet had heart disease. Dr Cole is well versed on current trends in cardiology, attends extensive continuing education and and his plan of care follows evidence based practice. Unfortunately, I've had a total of four dogs with heart disease, and my career involves twenty-nine years of cardiology, so this isn't my first rodeo. That is why I speak so highly of Dr Ed. He knows his stuff. Good luck. I'm sorry that you're searching for a cardiologist. It's no fun when a puppers is not well.

Do u declare a 6 yr. Old. Cat?

De-Claw...Although declawing does have some drawbacks, it is better than getting rid of your beloved pet because it is destroying expensive furniture. You should try rewarding it for using a purpose made sharpening mat first. The clinic does this procedure depending on the circumstances. The cat must be in good health otherwise and a strictly indoor pet. If the pet is scratching your kids, definitely do it. Did you know a vet's "Hippocratic" oath is to protect humans first while promoting the well-being of our beloved critters.

We do see many cardiac patients from other clinics in the area. We routinely do ekg’s and echocardiography to best treat cardiac diseaseWe would love to see Louis.
