You should try rewarding it for using a purpose made sharpening mat first. The clinic does this procedure depending on the circumstances. The cat must be in good health otherwise and a strictly indoor pet. If the pet is scratching your kids, definitely do it. Did you know a vet's "Hippocratic" oath is to protect humans first while promoting the well-being of our beloved critters.
