Marion county inspectors are Incompetent, useless existence of life. Waste of resources and time. The building department can easily be replaced by diseased riddled rodents. Complete dumpster fire.

Jay DeFalco with eXp Realty here. I know going down to the building department is not everyone’s idea if fun, but I would like to say thank you to all the staff members down there. They make it as painless as possible and have been a huge help with all the projects I’ve done this year. So again I say thank you.

AMAZING customer service! I went in as an owner builder with zero experience with my permit application. The clerk sat with me and went line by line on each page to make sure it was accurate and complete. I hail from another county that is super populated, and I can tell you, you don't see service like that here. There were some things I did incorrectly and she helped me correct them. All of my questions were answered and I left feeling confident when I drove home 2.5 hours away. I also love that I can check on my permit status online.

Especially after working with some of the other building departments in Central Florida, Marion County is a BLESSING to work with. All the staff is kind and helpful and will go out of their way to help you with any issues or concerns you might have. If you don't agree, try to get a permit with Lake County and you'll realized how good we have it with this team.

Yes, if your the home owner
Depends on the square footage
I believe it would be permitted the same as a shed. As long as it's just for storage... You can NOT live in it. If that's what you were thinking.
One year
Yes.
Yes you can BUT it has to be permitted as a residence which includes having to have plans by an architect and all of the other items needed to permit it as a residence (meaning thousands of dollars in costs and having to have a permit setup for it).
It varies based on your parcel set backs. You can call zoning to find out your set backs

If the house was built less than 10 years ago the Marion County Building Department should have on file the plans as permitted. ..... D.B
I think the question you're REALLY asking is... Can I live on the property I bought (or am buying) in a RV? The answer is no, generally speaking.. The answer is yes, IF you have a current and active building permit, county installed electricity and a way to take care of waste water. So, in other words, until you've spent literally thousands of dollars in... plans, setup fees and building permit services, you can't live on the property. As a side note: You HAVE to have county installed temporary power and can NOT use you're own renewable energy sources (e.g. solar). Solar HAS to be installed with a residence already on property and tied into the electric company and can NOT be off grid. (I'm dealing with all of this right now, and that's how I know all this).
