For starters I've never even heard of this place until I found myself out of town having my first son at Duke hospital in Durham NC... After complications with his heart at birth I was deeply saddened by the thought of not being by his side every single day until he is well enough to come home I mean honestly I can feel the tears building up with just the thought of not being able to support him at such a trying time but instead of crying I can truly say that the RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE has been wonderful for providing a private room for my wife and I, as well as a shuttle back and forth to the hospital every day of the week including weekends to be by our son's side, a private bathroom, daily catered meals, free laundry machines, I mean the list just goes on and on but most importantly the staff there is from my understanding mostly all volunteers and they truly go above and beyond to help with anything you need to be comfortable without fully knowing your situation but at the same time knowing everyone here is facing some sort of situation I take my hat off to this place as I am overwhelmed with gratitude and as stated in the beginning I never even heard of this place until I was in need and with that being said consider me a lifetime donor because I can only imagine how many they've helped before us and the many people that will surely need this place moving forward... May GOD continue to bless this place and those in need of such a place I would definitely recommend the RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE...

My son has ITP we had to go to the emergency room on a Sunday and they took us in an ambulance straight to Duke and we end up having to stay there for 4 days and two of the days we were released from the hospital and live 2 hours away and can't afford to drive back and forth we have one vehicle and six kids and they let me and my son stay so he could get his treatment he needed they have been such a blessing everyone is super nice and friendly dinner has been awesome every night and their snacks have been amazing too I said and talked to the night shift lady (Mrs. Sherry) for over an hour and could have talked to her all day she was so amazing I wish all my kids can meet her but my family is so thankful for everything they did for us maybe one day we'll be able to repay the favor Conrad Sadler age 13 ITP WORRIER and Mom Misty Pawlowski

What a life saver and peace of mind. The staff here is amazing as is the level of care also. The volunteers are gracious and helpful. It would be difficult without them. Very difficult.

The Caring House provides patients at Duke Cancer Institute with affordable housing and other support. Visit caringhouse.org for more info.
You can walk the few blocks from the. Duke and Durham VA hospitals ( which happens to be across the street from each other) to the most caring facility for parents and family of hospitalized children I've ever in my life experienced .
Please contact your hospital social worker who can help with the referral process.
They need volunteers usually to cook or bring donations they keep the families together when possible
I had a friend whose adult daughter had transplants, and she stayed at RMH.
Don't know about pop tab program
Yes they do because a group made a bunch of book marks with bible verses ♡
You can try and get a referral there. Call and ask for katherine
Yes
Contact the social service department at the hospital where your child will receive treatment. They will place your name on the waiting list for the day that you intend to arrive. Because each child's treatment is unique, a family’s stay at the House is unpredictable. Therefore, most local RMHC Chapters are unable to confirm room reservations for your stay prior to your arrival. In general, Ronald McDonald House programs offer rooms for families of pediatric patients 21 years old and younger. Due to the demand for rooms, some Houses accommodate families of patients up to 18 only. For most Houses, families may stay as long as their child remains in active treatment, although some Houses may establish a maximum length of stay at a Ronald McDonald House in order to accommodate room demand. This is determined on a local basis.
Not sure but please keep in mind some kids there have supressed immune systems. If things are near pets or allergens of any kind, please wash thoroughly. I know my son would love getting a stuffed animal while there!
