my boyfriend and i donated food, and the receptionist was extremely rude. just an unnecessary attitude. when she asked for my boyfriend’s ethnic name she scolded at it because it wasn’t as easy as “jerry” or “matthew.” it was an overall bad experience for what we were doing.

UM helped me get back on my feet. I stayed at the men's shelter three weeks. I will never forget the help I received.

The staff is most often disrespectful and condescending to the clients. Maintenance issues take a long time to be addressed. The food is sub-par, usually cold, and often late in being served. The workforce office and its staff are the one bright spot. They are helpful and caring. The workforce staff is very interested in each client and gives everyone specific and individualized assistance with a great attitude!

They're not allow to actually release that type of information. But if you walk inside, they should be able to let you know rather he is or isn't. But it's a night shelter so he isn't always guaranteed a bed
I was close to dying when released from Nash correctional. UMD They let me stay there and helped me get healthy, ID's how do i know, this is someone that started staying at UMD when i stood inline for a bed for 6weeks straigjt..then the counciler gave me the handicapped bed no bunk on top for 1 & 1/2 years...thats how i know.... , fed me good meals daily, and my sanity back. Now they can only help roughly 30% because of covid.. So i pray people can still help others to survive. .
The programs are 3 months. You get a Case Manage that assist you with getting a more permanent place to live. The program that I was in paid for my lights to be turned on and they paid my security deposit on my apartment. Go there...work with them and they will work with you.
The Durham Rescue Mission. Is A Very Nice Place To Start Over, And The Whole Family Is Welcome. I've Never Heard Of Anyone Being Turned Away. May God Bless You
Eric Pratt I never retained a bed , however I believe you can stay forever. If you choose to.

They are very helpful and every case is different and they rate you to see where you are, you could go straight to#1 on the list. They weigh different things and it's not first come first served there. They will give you food, clothes, shoes, and a place to stay right away if you need it. I live in my car and they are helping me and my name went to the top of the list off gate.
I want to know is it true that as of October 1st all people to be accept at Urban Ministries now have to first go through an assessment at Durham DSS Department?
No
Urban Ministry should be able to help.
Go to the cafeteria on Monday morning at 9 be there a little before to get a bed.
You may go in temporarily without one however you should have something identifying you, like Hospital paperwork or social security card. They can send you to the DMV to get your ID for free. Tell them that you need that assistance.
They collect all things for the homeless even toys but not for Toys for Tots!! All things there are considered donations and are distributed out to different families who are considered homeless or below a certain income level!! There are families who lives there who have small children who are for Santa's age who are guaranteed to get the toys there but yes they do take toys for donations!!
Im not for sure I know they help the homeless but Im not for sure about giving out bus tickets
Urban Ministries is a homeless shelter. It is my understanding that they will allow someone to stay there for up to 3-months per year. There is no charge to stay there
