Would not recommend this place. I called everyday for the past week and no one ever answered me. I sent a bunch if emails still no one answered and the cat I wanted got adopted. ended up going to a different shelter.

Everyone here is so sweet and helpful. Staff and volunteers! They take such good care of the animals, clean location, and the best part, it's a no kill shelter. They have fantastic programs for owners who need to be hospitalized and can't take care of their animals. Their adoption fees are a really decent price and they genuinely take the time to match the best family to each animal. Highly recommend!

My grandparents came in here this past weekend looking to adopt a dog because they are finally ready after loosing their mastiff last year due to health issues and his age. I am absolutely disgusted by the UNPROFESSIONAL behavior of this staff. My grandmother ended up falling in love with a dog and was told they would have to fill out an application and wait while they spoke to their vet to make sure their previous dogs were taken care of and up to date on shots. My grandma had no problem with that especially since they said they would hold the dog until the vet opened on Monday. My grandmother came in Sunday to visit the dog with my cousin and was informed the dog had been adopted by another family and the employee never put a hold on the dog. My grandma was crushed to say the least. Well they decided to put the mistake aside and continue their search with them. Well today they called to check the status of their application before going in. When they called the employee on the phone told them they had been denied because my grandma uses a Cane to get around for comfort. she is totally mobile and completely able to care for a dog. this staff is incompetent and judgmental and the management really should get a better staff.

We had a great experience adopting our dog Lilly here. They were quick to reply to our application and answered all of our questions. Lilly clearly trusted and liked all the staff. They gave us great information on her personality and likes/dislikes that help make the transition to our home easier. Thank you!

If they don't accept dog toys Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin will definitely take them!
hi Tom, prices are different but I assure it is not as expensive as other places and the dogs have all their vaccines and microchip already, I was a volunteer there for some time to tell you, check it out the staff there are nice people as well.
No, I just sign in and go play!
Where the paperwork to surrender a cat
Yes, check it their website for an application form. They will call you to set one up after submitting one
I precisely just adopted two cats from there... They are amazing...
You'll have to contact them directly
I don't know if there is a deeper discount above the already discounted vaccine prices. They are very reasonable.
IDK prices on cats just call john between 9 and 5. He's a honest good guy. A true pet lover
No
Hi Julia! Thank you for your interest in learning more about volunteering at A.D.O.P.T.! All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
Yes of course.
We currently do not have any the type of puppy you are looking for. Please check our website for a listing of our available dogs and puppies.
You do not need another cat, if you are planning to adopt an adult cat. Kittens under a certain age are typically adopted in pairs, but adult cats can be adopted alone.
You can visit with anybody but you cant adopt anything at 12 years old
At the shelter? No. Even adults have to fill out an adoption form and sit down with an adoption counselor to make sure the pet is right for you before being able to be in a visitation room with a dog. The cats however, are free range in their own rooms. You can pet and play with the cats as you please.
If you are looking to surrender your dog, you need to fill out a surrender application and the intake committee and management will decide if it's a dog they can take, if/when they have space. They will only call If they can take the dog. If it's a stray, they are not able to take strays. Strays need to go to the county animal control in which it was found.
Look at a petstore, like petsmart over here off liberty. They sometimes have some. I think this place only has cats/dogs.
Best thing to do is call ADOPT
Their website is adoptpetshelter.org they usually keep it updated.
Vaccines are available only during A.D.O.P.T.’s vaccine clinic hours (2:00-7:00pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month). The vaccines cost $15 each; rabies is the only vaccine required by law. There are no other costs at the clinic (no appointment fees), but you may want to call the shelter to confirm; I believe you will separately have to pay your city for a license/registration, which is also required by law.
Do you think a pet would be a responsible addition if your already in low income housing and on a fixed income?
Most adult cats are $100. Kittens are more.
The adoption counselors at ADOPT will work with your aunt to find the right fit! It always helps put shelters & rescues’ minds at ease of the senior adopter can share that they have an emergency plan for where their dog will go/who will care for the dog if something were to happen to the adopter (short-term or long-term). Generally, the adoption counselors would steer your aunt towards an adult dog who’s activity level & personality matches your aunt’s, rather than a puppy or teenage dog, but every case is unique! ADOPT does take in a lot of senior dogs who need a quiet, loving home for their golden years- that might be a great option for your aunt to consider :)
Also, check their Facebook page. They keep a photo gallery of their available animals.
If you don't get an answer here, call, email, or come in during adoption hours. Typically when there are puppies, there is a lot of interest and they aren't just adopted on a first come first served basis. This is the season for puppies, though. So even if the puppy you want isn't available now, keep checking. Good luck!
No one will adopt one if no one ever were to just go to look. My wife got me that way...sorta.
Agree with the first answer. All animals are given microchips, and it is really easy to update the chip with your information when you take your friend home.
You can visit the shelter’s website to view a list of available cats and dogs! The variety is always changing as animals get adopted, but there is always a number of different breeds available, including mixes and purebreed dogs.
We adopted 2 for 200.00, both were fixed and had some shots.
My high school daughter was a foster for a year. We ended up getting adopted by the dog.
We do take in cats, and find them beautiful homes. They are quite spoiled while they are with us.
I would leave that decision to the vet. They are usually at ADOPT on Wednesdays.Thank you so much for bringing home one of our furbabies. Missy is such a sweetie.
