I’ve been here 2-4 times from Harrisonburg; and let me tell you it has been worth it every single time. These ladies are so quick and efficient to get you out in a jiffy! They don’t make excuses, they listen to you and they get it done right. They are kind, respectful and helpful when answering my questions. I just went through this myself. I brought all documents with me just in case, but the only ones that had my new name were my SS card and my certified court order of name change. Not sure if I could have updated my license without the SS card. But if you don't have an appt with the DMV, make one now. I made my appt in early Nov and the soonest available appt was for 1/14. You will have your SS card before you are able to get in to the DMV most likely. You may want to check the DMV website to see if you can change tags without an in person visit. They seem to have more options for self-help via website because of the pandemic restrictions.
Only if the vehicle your transferring to has a title in your name. Other than that you will need an appointment.
