This my favorite East bay hike! I like making a loop where I start at huckleberry and then go up through Sibley and walk briefly on the side of the road to get back to the huckleberry lot. Gorgeous and so relaxing

Huckleberry Botanic Preserve boasts a gorgeous variety of rare native plants on nicely maintained trails. Walking through the canopies of manzanitas and oaks, you’ll find the critically endangered pallid manzanitas with their red bark, and dozens of massive canyon live oaks. Ferns cover the hillside, growing around the pervasive giant bay trees. The upper trail is almost completely flat, with the lower trail being more strenuous with steps. If you visit, be sure to read the informational signs, and don’t take or disrupt any of the plants.

Nice challenging trail. We did the lower Huckleberry to upper Huckleberry loop. A lot of beautiful foliage, stairs, inclines, and great view. It was a little confusing on which way to go. Wish they had more signs with mileage and better directions.

Huckleberry loop is a very nice trail. Majority of the trail is under shade. Start heading in the lower part (left of the fork) if you want an easier hike back (specially if you bring your kids, which we saw a number along the trail). Start heading the upper part of the loop (right of the fork) if you want a more challenging hike back. A hike in the spring will treat you with nice flowers. There's a only a few spots in the parking lot but there's a vault toilet. You can also park on the side of the road outside the parking lot.
