Absolutely HORRIBLE, they find reasons to kill the animals they have there. They just posted 2 pictures of coyote puppies & was gonna have them killed to get them tested instead of being a good shelter & calling wildlife centers, they also are very discriminating, when it comes to certain people getting animals, they never keep track of everything, a man came in one day with his wife and tried adopting a dog and waited 3 weeks just to find out that the dog was JUST adopted & they told me man and wife that it was never put in the system or called any references, they never called them to let them know until they showed up just to find out the dog was adopted, I do not recommend this shelter to anyone or any animals. They should put the animals in other places and close this place down

All who work or volunteer here have a genuine love for the animals in their care. Great attention is given to the health and comfort of the animals here. Volunteers are always needed!

I adopted Nicky an 8 year old Beagle mix on 2/4/2021. I love my ny new family member. He's a great dog, happy and lovable. The staff at Dessin were friendly and courteous. I highly recommend adopting your pet at the Dessin animal shelter.

As far as I know, you can visit the animals when they are open. Call first.
The shelter doesn't spay or neuter the animals they give you a voucher for your vet, that's free, but it doesn't cover the entire cost. The ending cost will be up to your vet.
175 adoption fee questionaire ans 3 refrences they dont have many dogs but alot of cats..
Not sure i was up there on the 1/31 best thing to do would be call them. is he microchipped? Hope you find him soon alot of people say about putting there litter box and dirty clothes along with some food alot of times they will come back
I just surrendered a dachshund mix she had 3 puppies a couple days ago!
Yes kittens are inoculated and fixed
I found this link below from the ASPCA that says normal timeframe is 6-9 months for puppies but can be as young as 8 weeks if they're healthy and 8 weeks for kittens. Hope that helps. https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/general-pet-care/spayneuter-your-pet
It's a no kill shelter so I would think unless an animal is terribly ill, there wouldn't be any time they did that.
Impersonating a control officer? Are you in a private community? If so, contact your board to ask them about this woman issuing fines. Sounds weird. Could she be a constable? I'd get her identification card and find out what authority she has to issue fines. Could be a scammer...
No.
They are on petfinder. They dont always have all the pets available up, but you can get a sense of what they have. https://www.petfinder.com/member/us/pa/honesdale/dessin-animal-shelter-pa59/
Dessin needs to see the appt. Card before they issue a voucher. New policy
We do our very best to find homes for all pets. Even if it has to be foster care til the end of their life.
Adoption prices vary. There isn't a set price chart. They are reasonable
If you have a Facebook page I would post it on there along with a picture and a way for someone to contact you if they found the dog. Request for people to repost it so that as many people as possible will see it.
By putting out food, you can gain their trust. The EPAA does low cost spaying and neutering on cats. Also Dessin rents humane traps. Good luck. I have ex ferrel cats that are sweet and loving.
6.50 if dog is spayed or neutered. 8.50 if not
Dessin animal shelter sells vouchers(coupon) that pays for an animal to be spayed or neutered. The voucher cost is 110 for a dog and 70 for a cat. The voucher only covers the spay or neuter cost if there's anything else that is needed like extra anesthesia or you get shots for your animal that cost would be on you. The voucher only works at Cherry Ridge vet, Wallenpaupack vet and Carbondale vet but you can ask your vet if they will take the voucher. The voucher is only good for 2 months and is not refundable. I recommend that you schedule your appointment first with the vet, so you don't waste your money.
Not sure. You should call the shelter directly
Yes he is still available.
They do have a real nice cat room. I don't know if they have room right now, you would have to call. They are very nice and easy to work with. I'd they don't have room right now you can ask if they'll take your name.
