Overall I had a good time tent camping. I didn't realize I needed a reservation, but the district office was very accommodating. Be sure to bring LOTS of bug spray in the summer. So many mosquitoes...

A decent amount of gravel and dirt roads to explore on 4 wheels or 2. To many yellow gates, some opened some not. but worth the drive. Some good views when the leaves are down. Oh and rattle snakes too.

We love it here. The gravel roads may not appeal to some but for cyclists who are looking for a getaway from the crazy drivers this is a wonderful place to go camping and bike riding

Great trails. Get map of trails at park hears. And you're all set.

Certain trails in areas protected by the PA DCNR are designated as ATV accessible. Most are not, however. Michaux has one trail nearby that is 36 miles long designated for ATVs, expanded to 42 miles in the Winter months. The trail is between Big Flat and Pine Grove Furnace State Park. You can access the trail in Big Flat, near Shippensburg Road. ATV use is prohibited for all trails NOT marked as for use with ATVs, so if you don't see a sign saying it's okay, it's not okay. There's a page with more info on PA DCNR's website. Try searching "PA DCNR ATV trails" . Roads for regular vehicles within the state forest may be a different story, but my guess is that it is not allowed because it's up the local governments to allow it. I'd call the Michaux office and ask. If it is allowed on any road at all, then it's probably the gravel roads that make up the interior of the forest.
I didn't see a thing this year!
There is primitive tent camping sites in a few places and many sites scattered throughout the park. There are a few campgrounds in areas around the Forest as well. You could try parking in a lot at one of the trailheads if you wanted, but a ranger would most likely ask you to leave. Your best bet is probably one of the interior parking areas, perhaps the one for Sunset Rocks or the Fuller Reservoir. Will the Rangers care? Not sure, they may or may not. Is it allowed? I dont think it is. To be sure, I'd call the Michaux office.
As with all things in the PA DCNR system, look for the signs. If fishing is prohibited it'll say so, however, it's my understanding that fishing is very popular in most PA state forests. PA does not require special licenses to fish in State Forest (with few exceptions anyway) other than the basic licenses. Good luck!
Michaux Road, at the intersection of Bunker Hill Road. There's a sign and small lot across the road, near the bridge over Tom's Run. On Google maps, just search for Camp Michaux.
Along the Appalachian Trail, within Michaux Forest, you can camp at the designated shelters if needed.
