Great hike! Can’t over emphasize the need to bring enough water. For example, I brought 96 fluid ounces and it was barely enough. Cool views though, once you pass through the super long (about half a mile) tunnel, you are really close. Bridges are kinda sketch but fine to walk across. Feel very remote out there and can go miles without seeing people. I enjoyed the hike though!

Long hike, very windy and was very cold before sunrise. Arrive early and park on shoulder of the road, don't touch the street or you may be ticketed. About 16 miles to the famous trestle, two tunnels are closed so you have to go around them, one of the detours is quite long.

Fun place to visit. The dirt road is a little rough getting out here, you should have a high clearance vehicle. Worth the drive and seeing some history.

Probably one of the best hikes in San Diego. Lots of cool things to see along the way graffiti trains, tunnels, and several small trestle bridges along the way. For us it was 8.63 miles one way according to my Garmin watch so you will most definitely want to bring plenty of water and snacks. Parking is easy just park right after going under the bridge on a dirt patch close to the billboard sign. When starting off you'll go over a few small bridges and come up to an abandoned train that has been graffitied about 1 mile in. The first tunnel about 1.5 miles in you come up to is closed but you can easily hike around. After getting back on the tracks you'll go over several small trestle bridges that can be crossed or walked around. About 4 miles which I consider the half way point into the hike you'll come to another abandoned train graffitied. The very next tunnel was closed for us, I believe number 8. You can hike around just be careful because the trail is pretty narrow with sheer drop offs, this was the hardest part of the hike. After getting back on the tracks just continue for about 3 more miles to see Goat Canyon Trestle Bridge.
