Though I did not actually bring my piece in, I called to get a rundown of possible issues and was given a very honest estimate. The person I spoke with was friendly and helpful.

since the owner disputes all the negative reviews, it's hard to get a clear picture. But it's worth reading all the reviews for sure, I have been a customer for almost 10 years. At first, they were professional and efficient, they managed to provide good service. For my last 2 visits, it wasn't the case, The worst part is communication which is condescending and arrogant and full of confusing accusations and inaccuracies. You may get lucky and get your gear fixed but I would put mine in storage rather than being insulted again by the owner of this place.

EDIT 2: Skilled or not, expect the "professionalism" to be equivalent to his responses to any one star review here. The man takes criticism unprofessionally and untruthfully. Non apologetic when it is due and definitely on a high horse. 5/7/2021 They were highly recommended to me. Gave them a call, was told my appointment was Friday at 10am. Thought it was straightforward. I set up my car insurance, packed my receiver, and made the four hour drive. When I arrived, they had me waiting 2 hours outside the store in the heat only to tell me I got the appointment wrong. Ignored my presence when I tried to cancel my appointment :P Thought they were the no nonsense type but they just lack human decency. Since most people seemed to have great experiences, I’ll say this: your mileage may vary HIGHLY. EDIT In response to the owner: Please don’t try to make up the situation in your favor. And also, I don’t appreciate your assumptions. I respected your customer’s time and did not intrude in the +60 minutes you had the diagnostic with him. He arrived after me yet I let him go ahead since he had two receivers which looked heavy. Also, at no time did I receive any instructions to “phone in” ahead of time for my appointment. After our conversation in which I was told I got the date wrong, I waited an additional 30 minutes outside to cancel my appointment with knocking and calling inside with no response. That was hardly “leaving in a huff.” I was in the parking lot when I called to cancel since you wouldn’t respond and also because I cannot make it Monday, not out of some pettiness as you seem to assume. If I wanted to petty, I would not have said anything and just pointlessly waste your time Monday. Don't think too highly of yourself. I only called to cancel out of decency which you severely lack. In addition, I mentioned my driving situation beforehand but you waved me off and headed to the back. There was no mention of a 2pm spot and I doubt you would have offered me it anyways. Whoever booked my appointment booked me for the “next available spot.” Since you’re claiming the next available spot was Monday, where the heck did this 2pm spot come from all of a sudden? This is news to me. Finally, you told me to write all this stuff down saying you mention these things explicitly , and yet my schedule for the week clearly says Friday, with me “explicitly” cancelling two commitments just for the this appointment. Look, I’m just a guy looking to fix my receiver. I didn't come to you guys with the intention of arguing or writing a negative review. And especially not to take accusations and be treated rudely. You certainly spent more time typing out a response than talking to me in person. Rest assured you won’t ever have to see me again and I you :) Have a good day

Fred and Jordan are two professionals that truly know what they're doing. How refreshing. They do what they say and are thorough with their diagnosis and repairs. It's obvious they have a world of knowledge and experience to draw from. If it's stereo repair you're in the market for, just come here. You won't regret it. If you want a longer winded explanation of my experience please read on... I have a Sherwood S-7100A stereo receiver and some vintage speakers that needed some love. The receiver's left channel was weak and the speakers needed a dead tweeter inspected/replaced. After a quick phone call with Fred describing my situation I set an appointment to bring in my equipment. On arrival I saw signage clearly explaining covid protocol. Nice. My receiver was attended to on a well padded work bench and immediate diagnosis was underway. It's obvious Fred knows what he's doing as one step at a time he went through the receiver and comes to the conclusion it's not a minor issue to make it work properly but would require more investigation. Fred had also called for Jordan from the back of the shop to inspect my speakers while Fred looked at the receiver. Jordan proceeded to professionally diagnose the speaker issue and also explained what would be involved for the repair. Jordan asked me key questions about the sound of the drivers at certain volumes which impressed me. He could tell at high volume there would be distortion due to age weakened foam surrounds and we agreed to refoam the drivers to solve the issue. At the end of the consultation I was presented an estimate for repairs which was very fair. This estimate was typed up confirming work I agreed to and I signed it plus received copies. The date I could expect my equipment to be ready for picked was also clearly listed. I paid a fair fee for the initial consultation/diagnosis and was on my way. Fred called by the date promised for completion and let me know my receiver and speakers were repaired and ready for pickup! We set a date for pickup and when I arrived that time was set aside for me. It was my time. We went over the repairs performed and I paid the balance owed and was on my way home to try out my refreshed gear that performed incredibly. I couldn't be happier. What a professional experience by a couple guys that know what they are doing. I won't take my stereo equipment anywhere else and neither should you.

Does the CD load from the top under a lid that pops up? Or does it load through a narrow slit in the front?

Larry, that's a multi-channel home-theater receiver. We don't do those. Instead, we specialize in vintage gear, like the Pioneer SX-850 we were restoring on Wednesday. You might contact Pioneer directly, and see whom them recommend.

We do not, but you can always buy a remote volume control kit to place in your tape monitor or pre-out / main-in loop - here's an example: https://ebay.us/1H7RaD

I have a sony tape corder model 362. Whats it worth? Manufactured in japan.

Thomas DePaola | Sep 7, 2018

We do not offer valuation services. However, you can often find your answer by logging on to ebay and searching your model under completed listings. This may or may not turn up answers based on how popular selling a machine it is, or if it was made for US markets - or foreign markets. Usually sets made for the foreign markets are harder to find info on.
