My father and mother were clients with Advocates for the Aging. My mother passed away after just a few months, and my father continued to benefit from their services for more than a year before he passed. The experience with the Advocates for the Aging was paramount and steadfast, their focus on my parents’ care regardless of any push, pull or contentious behavior or attitudes of our dysfunctional family. Our situation involved lawyers, care agreements, nursing contracts, physicians and in the end, two different hospice providers. We were not an easy client in any respect. The bills related directly to how much work was done and at what level of service. Some months were more, some were less. If ever I questioned any charge it was looked into and fairly resolved. They were easy to work with. The communication was great and dependable, including weekends and evenings if needed. Emails were always answered promptly and phone calls returned. Updates and changes were part of the ongoing communication in both directions. I knew there were eyes on the nursing care, Dad’s hygiene, activities and his doctor’s appointments and medications. Covid 19 made my travel unadvisable so their good communication was even more necessary and appreciated. The entire team including Danica, nurses, case managers, office staff and everyone involved answered questions and followed up by email or a phone call. I recommend the Advocates for the Aging without reservation. They made our very difficult situation better for my parents’ care.

Our, my brother and I; both in our 80s and 2500 and 1200 miles away, ongoing adventure with AFTA began a tad over a year ago. That's when we learned that our sister, in her early 80's, was in need of professional advocacy. What to do? Several phone calls to our sister's friends, doctors and attorney lead us to AFTA of Melbourne, Fl. What a find! Neither of us having had any prior experience with medical/mental advocacy unloaded our sister's many concerns in AFTA's lap and they have tended to our sister's needs as if she was their kin! Monitoring her financials needs, seeing to doctor/dentist visits, moving her to different living accommodations as conditions rapidly changed: three in this year. And then there is keeping track of her possessions and providing for her current personal needs. Plus keeping the two of us informed as her ever changing situation develops. We had no idea of the depth into one's life an ADVOCATE must go! And here is the real inside of this kind of advocacy. Without the personal dedication, self sacrifice, understanding the world in which the aged live none of the selfless attention given to our sister by Afta of Melbourne, Fl would have occurred: My brother and I might still be looking help.
