What a gem. Amazing what humanity could construct over 170 years ago before machines did so much of the work for us. The amount of bricks in this tunnel was quite impressive. Anyone who knows construction, excavation, or building of any sort will especially appreciate this tunnel. My kids just loved using flashlights to navigate their way through it! Well worth the detour away from I-68 to spend an hour walking through.

Fun family activity. My recommendation is to park in the lot designated for the tunnel and not go to the area up the mountain where you can hike down. If you park in the lot by the canal, it is an easy walk to the tunnel. As a family, we choose to walk through without any light assistance so the kids could experience the total darkness. They loved it! On the way back some other groups had flashlights and were shining them directly in our faces, so just to be aware of that if you do take a flashlight and come upon others. It is out of the way, and a neat experience that we are all going to remember for a long time.

Beautifully crafted tunnel, overall genius idea which may have been before it’s time.

Great trail! Very flat so good for biking, not as much for hiking more of a walk. The tunnel is really neat but super dark in the middle. Bit spooky if alone. Dog friendly!

I have never seen any, but I never looked since it would be a federal crime to remove any from that area.
I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't be.
There is a campsite about 1/2 mile north of the tunnel. The site has porta John’s and hand pumped well water.
Sure, but on the other side of the tunnel there was a rock slide awhile back and i believe the way is blocked so if you wanted to go further past the tunnel you wouldn't be able to go far
No. There is no way to get under the falls without getting directly getting in the canal and it isn't safe. There are snakes, plentiful in the water.
I believe its open till sunset. As It is a state park but there is overnight camping as well. Enjoy ! Bring a flashlight and your camera.
It was last month. Try calling travel Berkeley Springs. They would know for sure
