The 14 Karats is a father and son shop. I really like these guys--affable and honest. And they have the sweetest dog there who might come and greet you. A few years back, my wife and I bought our wedding rings from them after we sold some jewelry for credit. Kerry, the son, worked with us on the types of bands, taking plenty of time to take us through a number of options. My wife and I both love the rings they made for us. And I remember, rather amusingly, that John, the father, said my ring size was right in the middle of 2 sizes, and recommended I take the larger one because folks tend to gain weight as they get older. Let's just say that was the right call. I've also worked with John on the aforementioned sale to them, as well as getting quotes on other pieces more recently. Bottom line: these guys are good guys and you should visit their store for both purchasing and selling jewelry.

The people that run this place are amazing. I bought my wife's wedding ring here a couple years ago (a beautiful, unique piece that I hadn't seen anywhere else), and I still get amazing service from them even though I've long since moved away from the Bay Area. I've been able to contact them by email to do upkeep by sending the ring in, and we walked in the other day because we happened to be in town and they were able to service the ring again in no time. Amazing service and products!

Hi David, Unfortunately we don't do tension settings. I would recommend trying Pave (with an accent over the "e" I think) on College Ave in Oakland. I believe they work in silver and I think I have seen a tension-set ring from there before. good luck.
Hi Lesley. We currently have 4 alexandrite rings in stock. Two are channel-set bands (small, matched alexandrites in a row) and two are Engagement-style rings (an alexandrite Solitaire in rose gold and an alexandrite 3-stone ring in yellow gold with white diamonds on the side)
