I used to live on 141st back in the day, and this shop was on my block. So whenever I want my hair braided, I get it braided at this shop (for the past 7 years). The shop is a bit run down, not really in order, could use a good cleaning, but the women do know how to braid your hair well, and can do many styles (not all, some they dont do by choice not because of lack of ability). They open early 8/9, and since they dont take appointments just arrive early and youll be one of the first in a chair. They often will have 2 or 3 people working on your hair at the same time, so for a full head of box braids on someone with thick hair it takes about 5 hours max most of the time. Come with your hair washed and blow dried or at least well detangeled. Also plan to negotiate the price, as there are no set prices. They don't always take direction well, and often do things like braid your hair a length you dont want etc., so be cautious of that. That happened to me 3 weeks ago. I kept asking her not to make my box braids too long (I have a 3 year old ans 6 week old, and just need some braids so I look descent as I navigate becoming a mom of 2. I know the girls love long hair down to their butt right now, but I have no time and energy for that at this stage in my life journey. Anyway overall a descent braiding experience in the hood of Harlem.
