There wasn't any place to park, so my wife drove around while I got out and took some pictures, then some neighbors in the apartments across the street came out staring at me as if they were completely clueless why I was there, other than that the historical site was enjoyable

Off the tourist tours. Private property, but if the owner Clyde is there he may show you around. Thursdays is best according to Clyde.

This is such a cool place to visit. You cant get into the building, but it would be cool if you could. So much history packed into a tiny piece of land. It's a shame that the historical society doesn't do anything to maintain this amazing piece of history.

The remaining structures from the confederate prison were eerie to be found in the quiet neighborhood with the encroaching vines and scrubs - weathered tools and old cooking pots scattered around seemed to have been forgotten long ago. The whole scene was totally unexpected. We heard there is an eccentric old caretaker who lives there but was unseen.

There are areas which are privately owned property, however, the owners are usually friendly and don't mind if you look around. Just DON'T take a medical detector onto their property. Some people have done so in the past (talk about RUDE). There's ALOT of interesting history in Rowan County. I hope you enjoy your time! ✌️🇺🇸
