Probably the best tent pads (large 40’x40’ with deep pea sized river stones) of any State park I’ve seen. If your looking for a weekend booking in summer may want to reserve months in advance, but it’s not crowded thru the middle of the week. 5 stars all the way. The raccoons are almost tame, this guy stole a loaf of bread 2 feet from me 😂

We will definitely come back Lake Anna State Park where the campground host cares for the people and the property, the spacious RV and tent sites are intermingled with cabins and yurts, and campers can come overnight after 4 pm if a site is available. The campgrounds are a short walk to fishing at the lake and the bathhouses with hot showers are well maintained and safe. Our dog Harley really enjoyed hiking and hanging out with us near the water!

The enormous parking lots speak to the popularity of this spot in the summer. We came in early spring and enjoyed having the place to ourselves. Lots of birds to be seen and we even came across a deer running through the woods. The beach area looks like fun for swimming. We stopped at the Weirs Cove area. Hard to find the trail heads, but the one we found meandered right along the lake shore. Several picnic tables and a shelter at this spot make it a really cute area for a picnic.

$10 entry fee and additional fee to use the beach. Walking trails galore, and it's a beautiful spot to camp or rent a cabin. I haven't tried the cabins, but I drove past and they looked nice, some right on the lake. Kids will love the train at the beach and seeing the birds over the water. Snack bar, restrooms, horses on trails, high security with park workers keeping it very clean and beautiful. This is a great place for any type of hiker from beginner to advanced. Be sure to check out the side road just before you get to the main beach for a beautiful hike along the water.

Lol, its to support our state parks and help to preserve the beauty of the nature. Maybe next time you're there try to enjoy some of that instead of complaining about a camping park bathrooms, its not the hilton.
Its basically first come first serve. They can't just throw people out, how would that look. You just have to plan to come to the Lake allot earlier, but during the holidays is allot harder to get into Lake Anna. I would have a plan B Incase stuff like this happens. My sisters was going to the Lake and we only live 7 minutes away, but parking lot was full and so they reroute to Colonial Beach instead and had a great time there. You just need to plan ahead and always have a backup plan.
Fishing at 5:30, but dawn till dusk is typically round 6am till 7ish pm
Fees are: Parking: weekdays $3.00, weekends $4.00; Parking & Boat Launch - weekdays $7.00, weekends$8.00; Parking & Horse Trailer - weekdays $5.00, weekends $6.00; Beach Admissions: Adults (13 & up) - weekdays $3.00, weekends $4.00; children (3-12) - weekdays $2.00, weekends $3.00 Note: When entering the park to go to the beach/swimming area, you do not pay a seperate parking fee.
Ive only been on the beach there and i actually wasnt able to point out where all the boats were launching from. However, there were vessels of a similar size near the shore everytime ive been, so im certain its capable. I hope this helps.
The report before Labor Day should only have addressed Lake Anna STATE PARK BEACH. I have no idea how local media make decisions on what they report but the Health Dept and what we publicized was very specific. We always included the map that showed the area of the advisory. The problem is that many people may have concluded that the rest of the lake was not safe either, When I posted that our area was clear last Friday there were several people skeptical that it was really ok.
Deer hunting - reservation hunts. Chart here: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/huntdates.pdf More details here: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/hunting
For more information about fishing at a particular Virginia State Park, find the park of interest then click on "Recreation" in the left menu. Fishing licenses are required at all parks except at the Kiptopeke and York River piers where a fee is charged to fish. The fee covers users. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website has information about freshwater fishing licenses. Visit the Virginia Marine Resources Commission website for information about saltwater fishing. Saltwater fishing also requires an annual free registration as explained on the website.
Park entrance is free if you have a handicapped license plate or placard. If you don't have one of those but can prove social security disability or military disability we can provide you a pass at no cost but that needs to be done in advance of the visit. Any other charges in the park would apply.
State law permits alcohol use only in private areas (inside a cabin or camping unit) or in areas designated on permits issued by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Smoking is prohibited in all public buildings and within 25 feet of their entrances. It is also prohibited in all cabins, lodges and meeting facilities. Smoking is not allowed in snack bars, amphitheaters, pool complexes and all beach areas, even those not designated for swimming. Guests should properly dispose of cigarette butts.
Here is the fee chart. https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feescabins.pdf
Guarded swimming closes on Labor Day as well as the snack bar and bath houses, but park guests may swim at their own risk at the beach.
The park is pet friendly. You must keep a dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet and under you control. Dogs are not allowed on the swimming beach, or in public buildings like restrooms, bathhouses and the park office/visitor center.
Fishing? Yes but you need a Virginia State Fishing license if you're 16 years old or older.
I have a receipt, somewhere. Once I find it, I will picture it and post it. There will be information about your question, on it.
I have entered at 5.am ... And until 8 o'clock you can be there ... when you arrive there is not the one that charges you ... but you get off and there they are, you put 7 dollars and you grab the ticket. day you entered and you put it inside the envelope ... the ticket you give it to you
Long ago, not you need to get there early as I think they limit the number of car that can get in.
The water is regularly tested. It is a very large lake, so it varies. The large majority of the water regularly tests well bellow anything considered unsafe, especially in the mid and southern end of the lake. There can be some problems with pollution run-off after a heavy rain in a few narrow parts of the lake. The Virginia Department of Health is telling residents to avoid swimming in certain parts of Lake Anna in Orange, Louisa and Spotsylvania counties due to a harmful algae bloom. It is however, still safe to swim from the beach at Lake Anna State Park.
The park closed due to reaching capacity. Usually takes a few hours to be able to open back up and there is no safe place to wait. Now that the beach is open, will probably happen most weekends (it did yesterday too). Get there by 10 to make sure you get in and if you want to go 4th of July weekend, I'd make that 9.
For Lake Anna we try to post on the website. It's 2 p.m. on 6/14 and the park is closed for capacity so if you get this you can see what I mean. I take it off when they reopen. https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/lake-anna It is not 100% foolproof because sometimes the park is so busy dealing with closing the park entrance they forget to pass the word on. Get there by 10 and you shouldn't have a problem or try late afternoon.
Ryan O' has the correct answer. I would add that dogs must be on a leash less than 6 feet at all time.
Yes, can't have camping open without them. The other public restrooms are open too.
Not yet. We hope to open next weekend.
Yes!

If you have a license
17 is the youngest. We have a variety of jobs - maintenance rangers, lifeguards, housekeepers, contact rangers, clerical staff.
Yes. It os very busy so you should make a reservation, 800-933-7275.
We have a per car parking fee of $7 weekdays and $10 weekends. If you don't use a trailer for your kayak, that is all you would need to pay. If you have a trailer we charge and additional $5 parking fee. Avoid the motorboat launch and use the canoe/kayak launch over at the picnic area.
We have a car top launch over in the picnic area away from the main boat launch and beach that is much better for launching kayaks. If you don't have a trailer, there is no extra fee beyond the parking fee. If you do have a trailer it is $5 extra for the trailer. The daily parking fee is $7 weekdays and $10 weekends. The weekend price is only April-October, $7 every day the rest of the year.
Yes. Must check with park officials first though.
Not at state park. Ask at Dickersons Store they may know. (208 and 522)
Assuming you mean a trailered boat (as opposed to launching a kayak or canoe off your car), and that you live in state, through Sunday the fee would be $9, $5 to park the car and $4 for the trailer/launch fee. It is $2 more if you are out of state. Starting April 1 we have new rates, out of state fees are going away but there is a weekend differential at the park. You can find the chart here. Remember to add the parking plus boat fee. http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feesadmprk.pdf
Yes. You can fish at LASP but must have a fishing license
To the left of the park office about a mile and a half from the entrance to the park.
Yes inside the first row of ropes. The second area, further out is a swim only no float section
It is not very good everything ruined the torrential rains if it goes. Bring your own table and kitchen and chairs as there are not. Bathe if you can with me not careful
I think you can't camp, reservations are made only when you are going to have a party because there is a place in each area where they have their chairs, tables and two grills 👍
Yes it open on weekends... get there before lunch...
Actually, park staff close off the park road to additional traffic until enough parking spots have been vacated. Yes... has happened to me before.
I don't know of any government owned property that allows free camping but you definitely have to pay to camp in a Virginia State Park.
Both. There is a per car parking fee and a per person fee for guarded swimming. Swimming and parking fees are included in camping and cabin rentals.
The office is open 10-6. If you arrive after 6, there is an envelope is a slot outside of the office door with your name on it for check in for camping or cabin guests.
Yes Lake Anna Marina they have a website
You sure can! You can only camp overnight or afterhours if you get a capsite though.
We rent the picnic shelters at the park. If they aren't rented it is first come first served. On busy summer weekends we suspend reservations because we can't guarantee the folks that rent them will have enough parking.
In summer I think in mid-May
No, you are able to ride but must own your horse.
The trails would more accurately be considered walking trails.
Yes they have cabins and areas for tents and rv's..
It depends on what you are using it for and if you were going to use it to power electricity into the cabin then you wouldn't need it because it provides power. But in case of a storm that knocks out the power then it probably is ok but just to be sure ask the staff when you come in to check in
