A three-story home with an interesting history. We enjoyed the visit and tour as we were looking for a short mid-day something to do. Calling ahead we were told we had time and arrived to be greeted by a docent in the front entryway. The house has few original furnishings but is filled with pieces of history that the docents kindly gave us all knowledge they had on various items. I was impressed by the kitchen gadgets of the day, an ice box that was round and lost favor as no one wanted to chip away the square blocks to fit in it. A decorative glass box in the bedroom we were told was used to display funeral cards that were displayed as a means of showing status. One room is filled with all things related to telephones. I believe a phone company donated some funds and this was a way to show appreciation. This room is filled with interesting things. I searched a catalog of numbers for my grandmother's name. I didn't find it, but she had married 8 times in her life, so I was unsure what name to look for. As it is with an old house a few ghost stories were told. There is a good bit of information that surrounds the immediate area of Brooksville, and we enjoyed the history that the place brought to live through photos and items of yesterday. Items of interest are old newspapers articles on the hallway walls that detail some important events. The doctor's office is filled with medical items from times past and one room has multiple music playing devices that are very interesting. There is a room with some past military items and a very detailed doll house in the children's room. The docents were exceedingly polite and gave us more attention and time than you could expect. I was very grateful to have such wonderful people play host to us and show us with great interest all the amazing things that are here to see. If you like history at all, or are curious about the history of Brooksville, this is a place you will certainly enjoy.

Silent Slayer had a ghost hunt that I joined with Cynthia, just an amazing home, 11,000 artifacts inside, you step back in time, and yes the spirits we're pretty active.

My husband, my son and myself visited the May-Stringer house just the other day. Unfortunately we were one minute too late for a tour, literally got there at 3:01pm. they close at 3pm. As I always say everything happens for a reason, wasn't meant to be that day. (Now keep in mind I didn't know any of the history of this house just that it was said to be haunted) We did get to visit the gift shop and get a bit of information from Vicki, she informed us of when we could return for a visit and tour. When my husband asked her if she believed the house was haunted, she responded with "oh I know it is" she was very serious. the little glisten in her eye brought me to believe she has had more experience than just one to make her a firm believer! She told us that we needed to be sure to take pictures because we would see things when we got home that we didn't see while we were here! Creepy! Though my photos don't show anything I've got to share this anyways Now I am a photo phonetic, so of course I went to the front to check it out and snap some photos even though I knew we'd be back for a tour before too long! Now I dont know what exactly I saw, I DO KNOW THAT THE TOP ATTIC FLOOR WINDOW HAD A DARK SHADOW FIGURE IN THE WINDOW! IT WAS QUICK IT WAS THERE THEN IT WAS GONE, I HAD A HEAVY DARK FEELING WHEN I SAW IT. The window below it had white curtains, they moved as if someone was looking out the window. Now if someone else was there im not sure, I do know that what I saw in the attic window was mean, dark, it was not a person and it freaked me the hell out! It was very unsettling and a bit overwhelming. I immediately told my husband that our son would not be going inside that house! I refused to let him inside that house! My husband agreed! I left there sweating and freezing cold and I didn't even go inside! Now its been A few days and my son is on the phone with my sister, he is on 3. He tells his auntie that we went to a haunted house, that in the window he saw a old man, the old man looked very scary my son said and told him not to come inside! Then he was gone. I got goose bumps listening to this! Now this is something I didn't know about until today! I had to share because all you who are interested in this kinda stuff must go visit this house, all you who don't believe will after visiting the May-Stringer house!

It definitely is haunted. I have been a docent there for the past 2 yrs. I have had half a dozen experiences in that time. Photo's taken in the rooms with no one else in the room, but, then the picture shows another person in the room. One example of an experience. On the top 10 most haunted houses list in Florida,
Yes. There have been many reports about this house including ghosts, murder, etc. and some good YouTube videos. Do a google search for the May Stringer House.
