This preserve has lots of trails to bike or ride. If you are looking for wildlife, this probably isn’t the place for you. The walking trails do not have much variety, same basic look and feel of open area. I would suggest biking here and if you are looking for a walking hike, head down the street to Sleeping Turtles.

Camp Sites Available, Eco Friendly Bathrooms. Great lengths of trails out here.

Loads of trails. A long maintained mountain bike/hiking trail as well. Restrooms available as well as many picnic areas. Orange trail was flooded out at the time we were here in February 2019. A multitude of structures and campground looking places. No entrance fee that I saw.

Many miles of trails/fire roads through about 12,000 acers. Always good vegetation/flowers. Some wildlife. Near the entrance there's a pravilion picnic tables and rest room. The rest of the park is undeveloped except for the trails. Bring water. There's a single track bicycle trail that's many miles long.

The mouth of the cave is under water. It's near a big rock that the Indians used to use to do laundry.
It's on the Myakka River.
Go to reserve america.com to reserve site. Camper sites about $26 plus tax. Backcountry $5.
Within 50 yards from parking and the cabin looking building is a wooden structure
The cabin is visitor center, nature center. The restroom is near the cabin. Otherwise nearest tree.
No. Carlton Reserve is not a dog-friendly preserve, however, there are two preserves very close by that are. Sleeping Turtles Preserve North and Deer Prairie Creek Preserve North are both within 5 minutes or less of the Carlton Reserve.
There is a single-track bike trail mostly designed for off road bicycles. But there are a few nice hard packed dirt roads that work for hybrids. The South Powerline Grade and the Wellfield Road are really good surfaces and put together they make about a 10-mile loop. If you want to go further try the Venice-Arcadia Grade. The rest of the trails are mostly grass and soft dirt. Right now everything is very wet since we had heavy rains recently.
