I was admitted to the adolescent unit for 10 days. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about Taravista because some aspects of this place were okay and other aspects were awful. This is my first psychiatric stay, so I don't have much to compare it to. First and foremost, half of the nurses were terrible. They didn't genuinely care about the patients, just spouted fake positivity and basically ignored you unless they were doing checks. The other half of the nurses, however, were absolutely wonderful. They genuinely cared about me and the other patients and would take time to talk to us as equals. They helped me greatly and helped me calm down from panic attacks multiple times. On the other hand, all of the psychiatrists were completely incompetent. They asked me a few standard questions whenever we met, typed up my answers, and then sent me on my way. They gave me no coping skills, no advice, no comfort, absolutely nothing at all. They were completely cold and detached. The nurses were also awful. I'm a type one diabetic and was very upfront with the nurses about what I would need in order to manage my diabetes. They would not comply with what I needed. My blood sugar was completely messed up during my stay and for the week afterwards because of their refusal to comply with my medical needs. The groups that were offered were seldom, if ever, helpful. During my 10 day stay, only 2 of the groups actually helped me. Among the patients, the groups were regarded as fairly worthless. TW for self harm: Lastly, the staff did a poor job of making sure I wasn't hurting myself. I self harmed multiple times and it was never noticed by the staff even though multiple patients noticed. I don't blame Taravista for this, to be clear, but I do think that anyone considering going here should note that you won't be completely safe from yourself unless you're on a one-on-one (where a staff member is with you at all times). In conclusion, Taravista is a good place to go if you're looking for somewhere that will prevent you from committing suicide. There are enough competent nurses and compassionate patient that your stay will not be completely miserable. However, if you're looking for therapy and coping skills, Taravista is not the place to go.

I have had a few inpatient stays in my life. Psychiatric. The adult south 2 unit truly has some exceptional staff. They cared, they didn't rush and I've left truly feeling stronger. Doctor I had was empathetic and reliable. Group therapist who is by far the best I've ever met. Relatable, kind, consistent. A few obnoxious MHCs but that's everywhere. I'm really grateful I ended up there.

I was admitted to Tara Vista at rock bottom in June of last year due to panic disorder and depression I seriously thought I would never get better after going to 2 different places beforehand. The psychiatrists and the social workers are awesome one of my psychiatrists from here became my full time psychiatrist. He saved my life. I have seen staff be tormented and mocked by patients but they are still awesome they care about the patients and do what they can to help despite not being treated nicely by them. The schedule throughout the day is great and provides a lot to do. You get what you take out of it and I took a lot and Taravista gave me hope and a year later I am working at places like this as well.

i stayed here after trying to take my own life, so i was there to get mental health therapy/treatment. previously before getting admitted there i was in the emergency room for 5 days with my mom and i was unable to see my father. they were really strict on covid guidelines at the time. once i arrived at teravista the first day i was there, my dad got diagnosed with covid and they made me quarantine even though i hadn’t been in contact with my dad for the past 5 days. i was in my room alone, and they would drop food off for me during meal times. they gave me a tablet to which i could watch gilmore girls on my netflix account. i was also given a wireless phone and was able to call anyone, making the list of phone numbers they gave me to be able to call, useless. while in quarantine i received no therapy. i was told there would be a therapist who would come in and speak to me daily which i never received. i got out of quarantine on a sunday, and the next day i was discharged. i got one day of therapy from my stay. this was more of a stay at a hotel than a therapy treatment for mental health. awful experience.
