A great museum. The exhibits were amazing. There is a whole area dedicated to 9/11. Kids will definitely enjoy it. The museum is huge will definitely take some time to see everything. And the entry is free. You can donate if u want to. Staff is really helpful.

I came here this past weekend for the first time. I was shocked that the admission was for free and that they only suggest giving a small donation ($5 for individual and $10 for a couple). This museum is absolutely fantastic. The place is clean, including the bathrooms and the displays are so well maintained. Some of the exhibits were closed as well as the gift shop, but I saw a good amount of displays while I was there. The one exhibit that stood out and really hit close to home since I am from Brooklyn, NY was the World Trade Center exhibit. I don't think anyone can look at those displays and not want to shed a tear about what had happened on 9/11/2001. They have some really interesting pieces, including the original flag that was on top of one of the towers. I also really enjoyed the Birds of New York exhibit. I never realized we have so many feathered friends flying all around us. Overall, this is a great museum for any age and a wonderful look into the history of New York State. I will definitely come back again!

Great place for family, friend, relationship or single outing. The museum did a great job shining the light on history throughout the years. One of my favorite sections are the 9/11 section and the African American section. You would also have access to a carousel on the last floor and variety of airplane. Must see place when visiting Albany, NY.

We came earlier in the morning on a Sunday and pretty much had the place to ourselves until around 11! Fun exhibits, eeriely lifelike mannequins, and a fantastic bird & wildlife section. My favorite section was the rocks & minerals of NY. Sparkly and fascinating to see the different forms rocks take!

I like to add all the great responses, if you go on the weekend, the municipal lot located towards the Madison Avenue side of Museum is free and greatly underutilized. This is a great asset as it's very convenient to the museum and the overall New York State complex.
It depends upon your time spent there and their age. But in general I think you'll have a good time with your family and friends if they are going to be able to take a look at the exhibition items to engage with the display items, then it will work out for you.
I'm not sure there is a rule. I know that NYS law has supervision criteria about children left alone. Nys museum used to have a daycare. I don't know they still do.
Yes. I take pictures all the time.
They have a great exhibit at the museum of locally discovered mastedons. I'll believe this exhibit is a permanent exhibit and is always on display. What's fascinating is that you get to see some of the actual bones, such as a skull, up close. I suggest contact them by phone or their website, to see if there are any traveling exhibits that you may be interested in viewing. The traveling exhibits are updated frequently and some or many of these may be of great interest to you,
Closed on all state observed holidays
No weekend hours at the moment
check the website for the most up to date information and policies.
Yes
Cost is free, but they take donations.
There are several lots. See this link for locations: https://empirestateplaza.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2018/08/visitorlots.pdf Your RV won't fit in the lot under the Plaza, but the Madison Avenue lot should be fine, as it's a surface lot. There is a fee during peak weekday hours.
You can donate whatever you like. Suggested donation is marked on the box. But it's not required
It's a new York owned museum so I imagine it would be!!
I've never seen any electric cards however they do have elevators in place of the stairs and there are a lot of stairs.
Tuesday-Sunday, 9:30-5.
Yes. They have a cafe on the 2nd fl.
5pm today
Inside the museum your options are extremely limited. But there's an enormous underground complex that houses how many types of restaurants that range from McDonald's to more elaborate sit-down meals. Course of the weather is nice there's lots of grounds outside to sit and enjoy your own food as well. Good luck and have a fun time.
Best to contact the museum directly to ascertain the most recent information
You would most likely be subject to immediate arrest
There's a Museum Lot West of the museum, Cathedral Lot East of the museum, street parking, 2 hour parking in neighborhoods, there are parking garages underneath the plaza accessible from 787, and a couple of private lots a few blocks away. Weekends are free, weekdays vary in prices depending on location and time of day.
Your dog might like the stuffed birds on display; Fido will find all the other exhibits somewhat boring.
Yes, the carousel is open for rides. There is also a view of the area, so even if you don't want to ride, it is worth visiting.
