I like to add all the great responses, if you go on the weekend, the municipal lot located towards the Madison Avenue side of Museum is free and greatly underutilized. This is a great asset as it's very convenient to the museum and the overall New York State complex.

Yes Underground parking right across the street. Then you can enjoy a walkabout around the square.

Yes however there is a charge. Not a lot but enough. If you don't mind a short walk before your visit you can park on Phillip st or Morton ave or park on Madison ave and pay the meter $5 I think for all day parking so you do not get a ticket. !!!!!!!BE SURE TO READ ALL THE PARKING SIGNS WHEREVER YOU CHOOSE TO PARK!!!!!!
