I can't say enough positive things about Calusa Harbour. mom lived here for over 5 years and called it a real home. the staff is beyond caring, respectful, loving, dedicated and competent. she really considered them family. the location is better than most resorts. 5* all the way. the food is excellent, the activities plentiful. the cost is very reasonable! other assisted living facilities (with less services) cost much more. i am so thankful that we found Calusa Harbour when we needed it.

My stepmother started in Skilled Nursing then transitioned to Assisted Living. The community is very welcoming and made the transition seamless for her. I would recommend Calusa Harbor to anyone interested in transition living.

My mom just celebrated her four year anniversary as a resident at Calusa Harbor. She started out in Independent Living and moved to Assisted Living when her health declined and needed more help. She is happy, healthy and safe, in a warm and kind environment. I visit her several times a week. I can say that the staff is really wonderful. The riverside restaurant is always first rate. They have more activities and amenities than she could possibly take advantage of. I could never ever have been able to provide her with better care on my own. I am grateful to all of the people working at Calusa Harbor.

I have known residents of Calusa Harbor and have had professional relationships with employees for many years. The residents are happy and social and make friends easily. The staff are caring and kind. Many times I walk into Calusa Harbor to see many residents and staff interacting, smiling, and laughing. Besides all of the wonderful observations above you truly can’t get a better view than the views at Calusa Harbor. My impression of Calusa Harbor is that it’s for all types of people and serve many levels of care for people in a dignified, caring approach. They for sure get a 5 star rating from everything I see and observe each and every time I am there!

My father needs more help than we can provide for him to be safe at home. I think he realizes it but is reluctant to leave the friends he’s made in his neighborhood. Dad has lived there for about 25 years. What can we do to reassure him he can stay connec

Good question! Embarking on a new chapter in life doesn’t mean old friends have to be left behind. Assisted living communities offer a wide range of programs and events residents can invite guests to participate in. And they also offer transportation services so your dad can attend events in and around town with his old buddies. Fortunately, there are other ways your father can stay in touch. Social media channels like Facebook or a video chat service such as Skype are two easy avenues for staying connected.

My mom agreed that it was time for her to move to an assisted living community this winter. She knows she just isn’t safe living alone any longer. We found a community Mom seemed to love. Now we can’t seem to get her motivated to actually make the move. I

This sometimes happen when it actually comes time to make the move. Your mom is probably anxious and a little uncertain. A late life transition like this isn’t easy to make. What might help is to get her involved in some of the events and activities at the new community now, instead of waiting until she actually moves in. Talk with the staff to see about helping her find a buddy with similar interests and hobbies that she can bond with during her visits. Becoming more familiar with the community and with a few fellow residents can help make the move feel a little less intimidating.

My children live out of town and have busy lives. I know I need to move to a senior living community but I don’t want to burden my children with downsizing my house. What can I do? It’s overwhelming to think about doing it all on my own.

We hear this concern from seniors often. Sorting through and packing up a lifetime of memories and belongings can be overwhelming. One resource we like to share with families is a group of professionals called Senior Move Managers. They are experts at handling all of the details of a later life move. You can find one near your home by visiting the National Association of Senior Move Managers or Certified Relocation & Transition Specialist.

My aunt is moving in soon and we were wondering about installing a small flatscreen TV in her studio? Is that possible? Also, what about a phone? Should we bring a small, old-fashioned 'slim line?' She does not use a cell phone. Thanks you.

Susan Matyus | Apr 8, 2022
Kathleen Steele | Apr 8, 2022

I don't know about hanging a TV on the wall, you would probably have to ask. With a phone she can use her own phone and use that .The cost to use a landline phone is $38.00 compared to $0.00 for a cell. My dad does not use a phone and it cost him $38.00 a month. Also it depends on you bundle the cable ( phone internet ) and all the channels. Hope this helps
