I was told by an employee here that this agency is greatly understaffed. When you submit an application you're supposed to receive a reply within 60 days; It has been over 4 months and I call but nobody ever returns my phone calls. Nobody seems to know what to say when you call. I don't receive any emails or any type of correspondence from this company despite all of the paperwork that I spent a long time getting together for them. I plan to file a formal complaint as this is an extremely important government agency which should be providing timely services.

Building is closed since covid19 started, the security guard points at a directory with numbers to call but Agency for Persons with Disability is not listed. If you call their number it rings and sends you to a voice mail that when is not full, no one returns the call. I have been directed to go online, but was not provided with the web address, I’ll have to venture off just like with everything else happening now.

Limited experience. Trying to call for assistance with delivering anapplication, but the voice mail is full and the only option is to hang up. I will update if I have a better experience.

I've been trying to get services for my daughter and they responded with an email for me to interview the respide companies, then when I finished all they were asking for. Three weeks after they do not respond me yet. Seriously, I'm asking for services because I need it not because I want to play a game. This is not the first time this happens with this company. It takes forever plus there employees seems not to be happy. APD definitely needs a better administration.

I am a disabled single father of 2, how can I apply for housing for the disabled? And how long is the waiting list?(Orlando F.L.)

Unfortunately, APD does not assist with housing. Is your disability a result of an injury or were you born with a disability? APD only services individuals who were born with a developmental disability. You may want to try Orlando, Seminole, or Winter Park housing authority for housing assistance. Hope this helps

Please go to APDcares.org and you will find the information on how to become a provider.

How does one get on the waitlist? That link on the website is broken - 404.

Samantha, you need to complete an application for the individual who needs the services. The application is located online and you can download it. Once you complete the application and provide all of the proof for disability, they will put you on the waiting list if approved. They also have a long waitlist currently, but they can sometimes expedite review for those on the waitlist if you have extenuating circumstances. They can let you know more about this once you're on the list. If the link is broken, just give them a call at Orlando APD. They will direct you on how to retrieve the application. I hope this information is helpful. 😉

do you guys do housing or independent living.

Supported living is a service that's available to consumers on the waiver. The agency doesn't offer housing. It provides access to resources (supported/ independent living or group homes) through Waiver Support Coordinators contracted thru the Agency- not the Agency itself. APD doesn't have any facilities itself.

Does APD ever offer events for their clients to attend where they might be able to meet other people?

The annual Family Cafe, held earlier this year in Orlando, might be just what you are describing. It drew hundreds of folks and many providers. Be on the lookout for next year's event.

I’d look on the APD website and find a provider in your area that are hiring for companions. If you need assistance I could help you.
