We have been going to Dr Schrodi for 13+ years. She and her staff are very caring and do a fantastic job with all 5 of my children - as a pediatric dentist as well as ortho. I highly recommend TLC for Smiles for all of your families dental needs.

I don't usually write reviews. Dr.Schrodi impressed me with her professionalism and kindness. I wanted to have my teeth fixed a year ago. I consulted many dentists, but none of them convinced me to choose one. Until I met Dr.Schrodi, I was lucky. She has a great professional aesthetic and can give good advice; Dispels my inner anxiety; Her team also actively takes care of your teeth; Anyway, if you're still looking for your dentist; Trust me, you deserve to go to Dr.Schrodi, and when you read this comment and go to Dr.Schrodi, you will thank me very much.

Educated and Kind Staff ! The desk workers were super kind and patient in explaining everything to me (it was my first time going to a dentist alone). The assistant knew what she was doing, and walked me through everything calmly. The doctor was also super kind and made me feel like I was in good hands! Just generally great staff and wait time was a breeze. Love it here :-)

Will my nervous child always need sedation?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

No! Our goal is to help a nervous child through dental procedures, using sedation when needed. However, our goal is to teach children that they can get through dental procedures without needing any kind of sedation. We do this through progressive desensitization. We build upon each positive experience with the goal of independence from sedation.

What is laughing gas?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Laughing gas is nitrous oxide. This is used to help children relax and feel happy when dental work is being done. Children who breathe laughing gas stay awake the entire time and they really enjoy watching a movie while the dental work is being done.

My child is afraid and nervous. What can you do to help?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

At TLC for Smiles, our mission is to treat children with Tender Loving Care. We are experts in helping children get through necessary dental procedures. For all children, we “Tell-Show-Do”. That is, first we explain what we’re doing, we show the children what to expect, and then we do our work. We also offer nitrous oxide/laughing gas, oral conscious sedation, or treatment under anesthesia. We always consider each patient’s needs and recommend the best option for them.

Will teeth need to be extracted before getting braces/Invisalign?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

We never recommend orthodontic treatment unless it is necessary. In fact, we do our best to avoid tooth removal through early arch development. As a free service to our community, we start screening patients as early as 7 years old. We can then monitor them every 6 months to determine when treatment should begin. Timely removal of baby teeth can help permanent teeth erupt correctly, avoiding orthodontic problems and costly procedures like surgery.

Do you see children with special needs?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Yes! Our pediatric dentists are specially trained to see children with special needs. They treat every child with patience and kindness. We work with children who have autism, sensory processing disorder, Down syndrome, and a wide variety of medical concerns. Our pediatric dentists work closely with physicians and behavioral therapists.

How often are dental sealants done?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Research shows that even a single application of dental sealant is beneficial. However, the best practice is to maintain dental sealants by reapplying dental sealant every 2 or 3 years. Many progressive dental insurances actually cover the cost of dental sealants every 3 years. At TLC for Smiles, we check if your insurance has this benefit and we help you maximize your benefits!

At what age are dental sealants placed?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Our goal is to place dental sealants on permanent molars before they get cavities or tooth decay. This means we want to place dental sealants on first molars around age 7 and on second molars around age 12. In fact, if you don’t get the sealants done before a certain age, many dental insurances won’t cover this benefit any more. At TLC for Smiles, we check if your insurance has these age restrictions, and we help you get the dental sealants done at the right age.

What are dental sealants?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Dental sealants are a protective coating that is bonded to teeth in order to prevent tooth decay. Some teeth have very deep grooves that are so narrow that a toothbrush cannot get in to clean the groove. So even with a perfect diet and perfect brushing, teeth with these grooves can get cavities and tooth decay. Dental sealants can be bonded to teeth in order to block out sugar and bacteria. Dental sealant does not guarantee that a tooth won’t get decay but it will reduce risk.

Do you use amalgam or fillings with mercury?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

No! At TLC for Smiles, we only use white fillings which do not have mercury. We prefer white fillings because this allows us to remove less tooth material compared to what is required to place amalgam/mercury fillings. Also, white fillings are prettier and better for the environment.

What’s the difference between braces and Invisalign?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Invisalign braces are smooth plastic aligners that gradually straighten teeth without the need for metal brackets or wires. Like traditional braces, Invisalign effectively treats a wide range of dental problems including crooked or crowded teeth, gaps and spaces, or misaligned bites. Because Invisalign treatment offers amazing results with greater comfort, fewer office visits, and fewer restrictions than traditional metal braces, Invisalign is the clear choice to achieve a beautiful smile.

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Will a retainer be necessary when I finish treatment?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Yes! If you want your teeth to stay straight, you will have to wear a retainer during sleep for your entire life. Right after orthodontic treatment is completed, we recommend wearing retainers full time. After 5 or 6 months, we teach you how to wear your retainers for less time during the day. Eventually, you will be wearing retainers only at night.

How will dental hygiene habits need to change during orthodontic treatment?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Invisalign aligners allow you to brush and floss your teeth normally and is the healthier option. Patients with traditional braces must learn to brush around the brackets and under the wires. Rest assured, our assistants give a thorough lesson in brushing and flossing when braces are placed. At every visit, we give all of our patients feedback about their oral hygiene and we coach in a positive manner. Our goal is to straighten teeth to achieve a *healthy and beautiful smile.

Will there be any restrictions on activities or food during orthodontic treatment?

TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020
TLC for Smiles | Sep 4, 2020

Patients with braces or Invisalign aligners have no limitations on their participation in activities or sports. However, when engaging in contact sports like football or basketball, a sportsguard is always a good idea. Invisalign patients can enjoy all of their normal foods and drinks since it is so easy to remove the aligners. Patients with braces will receive a list of foods that should be avoided. Examples include sticky foods, sodas, and hard foods like nuts, popcorn, or chips.
