New York DMV Now Kiosk

Maybe my best DMV experience to date: the place was packed the Monday afternoon I went in to take care of some vehicular business; and yet, I was in and out in under 30 minutes, they work very efficiently here.

I went on a Wednesday around 2pm for a 2:15pm appointment i made in advance. Crowded but pretty quiet, room for an empty seat or two between every customer. I was exchanging an out of state license. First time at this location. TL;DR: 2 hours. 20 minutes after i arrived they called the number i got at the kiosk on entry, took my photo and had me sign a blank piece of paper for my signature. I had expected the picture to happen at the end, so this caught me a little off guard. Took perhaps two full minutes total. Then they shooed me away and said my number would be called again. Should have brought snacks - masks were mandated but were not enforced. And although it was a hot day outside, i wish I'd been wearing long pants and long sleeves inside. About an hour and a half later my number was called again. Everything went well and efficiently once i was called. Made it out after two hours total. Wish I'd anticipated waiting even with an appointment, but I didn't.

This is a surprisingly efficient streamlined dmv. If you make an appointment online ahead of time just scan you qr code, get your number, and wait for your turn.

In and out in 37 minutes for a first time enhanced drivers license. Tip: don’t go during lunch time, take the last available appointment time. Make sure to carefully review the required documents to bring with you. If you have everything ready you should be in an out quickly.
