Beautiful hiking place but No trash cans at all. Beautiful place to hike, specially if you're hiking with a group of people with a different level of hiking skills. I don't think it is for advanced hikers but good for Beautiful views and peaceful environment. Pets are allowed and it's easy to maneuver around with dogs. It wasn't crowded when I visited here but I saw many people visiting in the afternoon but that could be mostly dependent on weather. One negative is - Not even a single trash can anywhere, so be prepared to carry everything with you.

This was my 1st time at this park and we had a good time. If you want to get out of the house and have a nice outdoor experience this is for you! There are a few different trails to follow and we did the red one. It was a mix terrain, some had little rock and others had big borders that we were walking over. At some parts it was alittle muddy and others dry, so it really was mixed. Most of the time we were by the steam and at one part took our shoes off and dipped our feet in. It was a nice hike, it took us 2hrs to do the trail and that was with hanging out along the trail. There are some picnic tables throughout the park, but it seem like it would be a long way to carry everything. Maybe a good place for a small picnic. I would definitely recommend this park for a nice Saturday outing. If you go let me know how you like it!

Probably won't be a five if I hadn't visited during the fall foliage, but upon witnessing its glory during our visit, the hike and the sceneries are as good as it gets. We hiked on Nov 5. It was after the peak foliage, but the colors were still spectacular. It was a brisk sunny day, perfect for hiking. From the parking lot, we started with the Main Trail. This part was paved, though not in good condition. With the picnic area on the right (also where wheelchairs can't go any further), we took the Windy Ridge Trail which could be easily missed. There are a lot of tree roots. At the end of the trail, we cross the bridge on the right, which is the start of the Riverside Trail. As soon as you see the river, look for a park bench on a pedestal on your right, because you wouldn't want miss the most picturesque view there. Don't let the name of the trail fool you. The part of Riverside trail right up to the Three Pools Trail is rocky and difficult to hike. Trail is also hard to follow. We took the Three Pools Trail back to the Main Trail. Before concluding the hike, we made an excursion to the Waterfall Trail for the waterfall which was not easy to get close to despite reaching the bottom of the long staircase for the Trout Brook Waterfall. It took us 2 hours while taking lots of photos along the way, and it covered about half of the trail. We hope to come back some day to explore the rest of the trails. There are plenty of parking. The approaches to the park from both the east and west are a bit unexpected. Almost just a single lane in some parts, and windy in others. Remote and out of the way for sure, but that's makes this state park even more of a tugged-away gem.

Stream running along your hike, its pleasant hiking experience on autumn day in Hacklebarney state park. we took lot of break and spent more time with water :) love this place. it has options for barbeque for sunny days. There are many loops/trails to choose from, red loop being the longest one, we did blue collar loop and its moderate hike. Kids 6+ would do on there own(mine did). Highly recommended
