Great but if u take the red trail the markers suck at the top. Look for orange and head that way.

Nice trail. Just be aware of property markers.

New Jersey doesn't have much Geography as far as Mountains go, so this would be a Short Length but Steep and Rocky Hike with Moderately Eroded Trails. There is 1 Picnic Table up in the Tree's and is an Ideal Picknick Spot for a Single Family. There is No Fire Pit. No Restrooms. Just Hiking. There is a Waterfall but it is not big and does not have much Water Falling. It is more of a Gentle Flowing Waterfall. There is a Large Cavemouth at the Top of Orange Trail. I took some photo's but didn't get too close because something lives in there. I've been on this trail a few times, and 1 Time, my daughter and I had to stop and turn around because something was Throwing Rocks Down at us and Beating on Tree's up above us, just to the right of Blue Path.

We live this uphill hike. If you go far enough you'll come to the eponymous cataract, but there's a lot of room for hiking around in general. There's also a small brook right near the parking area to cool your feet.

How did Cataract Park in Long Valley, NJ get its name?

I don't see any references that say so, but since there are a bunch of waterfalls (a.k.a, cataracts) I think that's where the name comes from.
