A twisty, bendy, yet scenic drive to the location. Parking was easy to find. We went down the office building to the Tiptoe Falls first before exploring other trails. Most of the trails were shaded which was very enjoyable. As I advise for all other trails, try to hike fully clothed with a small first aid kit handy. You may need hydrocortisone for bug bites. Do use bug spray before your adventure. For this hike, wear hydro shoes as you have to cross streams along the hike. The tiptoe falls suits is name as you just tip toe into it. Enjoy and don't forget water, snacks and a bag to haul your trash with you. ποΈ

Great unplugged experience among the trees. easy hikes around campsites...no dogs off leash, quiet hours and of course crumb free.

Firstlet me say, I never get car sick. I don't know if it was all the coffee powering my trip up the coast, or the dried mango and garlic covered almonds from Gilroy, but it became apparent I needed to slow down taking all these curves through Saratoga to Portola Redwoods Campground.Β Then the skyline vistas and towering forests washed away any sickness and I found my groove with some Elderbrook on the radio. I arrived after the Ranger Station had closed, but there was a sheet hanging on a clipboard with open sites. I opted for the walk in group site, #61, and set up my little backpacking tent. Summer nights mean the sun goes down after 8, and I took the paved road a half mile to Iverson Trail and Tiptoe Falls to get a short hike in before sunset. Although this was no McCloud Falls, (or Burney Falls from my northern road trip) it was a well maintained, with choose your own adventure trails around the campground and park, offering different paths for hikers of all levels. Portola is a perfect campground for large groups, organizations, and team building or a group of friends. Add in some wine tours & me as the sober driver, we have moments of magic on the mountains. Back on the tree lined roads, creating moments in the pines. 108 is Magic.

First time here, friendly rangers and host. I brought my daughter and stayed in site 21. The site was pretty small, really only room for one tent. I noticed many of the sites are small, so do your research. Facilities were all functioning and very clean. Thereβs a great sandy beach for kids located at the end of the Portola Group Camp, bring your floaties!

I'm assuming no..., because I didn't see little plastic bags of poo left laying around everywhere along the trail.
Yes, or at least it was a Month ago.
Most of the camp sites are tent camping but very chilly that time of the year not even sure the camp sites are available in Feb to rent
Yes they allow dogs some of the trails they do not but me and my rednose camped there for a week over the summer and it was a great stay. Def recomend it.
