We did one of the shorter trails, just 5 miles full trip. And it was definitely worth it. The view from the top, over the cliffs is absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend the 'Annapolis Rock' trail, you won't regret it.

Hiking trails for every skill level; several parking areas for monuments and trail access; clean public restrooms; fresh spring water; primitive camping sites, large shelters, and everything in between. Challenging trails for adults and easier treks for families. Great spot to access the AT.

Great set of trails and camp sites. With a ton of paths trickling through the entire park. Good amount of small streams and water ways. Not a ton of bugs and a lot of different access points. Also nice elevation and views at the top. Great spot for kids, animals, and the more intrepid explorers.

I hiked Thurston Griggs trail starting on white oak Road in smithsburg. This was an amazing trail, beautiful, but very steep and rocky. It's ranked as an Easy trail on a lot of websites but I beg to differ. It's easy once you reach the white blaze trail (Appalachian section) but that's about 2 miles in. Took me about an hour up the trail and then 35 minutes going back down. If you're looking for a longer hike, there is a shelter and camp area along the white blaze here.

I wish I could find them as well. In a nut shell, there's no hunting on NPS land and some of the state owned land (not all of it is open to hunting). There is at least one piece of state owned that is archery only. Most of the land is very inassesable due to being surrounded by private property. I've only found one public access point off of Reno Monument Rd and one nearby on the west side along another road where state land meets the road for about 70 yards.
No, the trail is rocky and rough in both directions.
Yes but it's closed on Sundays and Holidays as well...
I don't know for sure but I do know that the 1st exit across the WV line is Hazelton Rd and Big Bear Lake as well as the Pine Hills Campground are both year round RV parks...
Yes. But I advise calling the park rangers office a couple days prior and they will accommodate you with any and amenities that they have available, as well...
Lakes are at Greenbrier (which is across from South Mountain Park) and Cunningham falls near Thurmont and Caledonia state park in PA, I am pretty sure there isn't one in South Mountain Park itself.
You have to call them
Maryland is home to the timber rattlesnake but, in the 10+ years I lived in the area and frequented the South Mountain area, I never saw one.
