For background, I'm an avid DIYer and have helped two friends replace their roofs. However, I am also no longer young and dumb, so when my skylight started leaking in the spring we decided to replace the entire roof because of other issues. We have a walkout basement on the back of the house, with no real yard and a pool close to the back of the house. We went with Blue Collar largely based on their reviews and their middle-of-the-pack estimate. Chris was prompt and detail-oriented. When the weather was good, the team went at it FAST. They had the entire roof stripped and all but the sunroom completed on the first day (13 hours in 85F heat). They covered the pool and deck to keep debris out and used tarps to cover the landscaping. The whole process went smooth, and the final product is flawless. They're also very good on cleanup, but don't ever expect perfection (we're talking several tons of material and thousands of nails, people have to be realistic that things will be left behind). All-in-all we were extremely happy with the whole process and would absolutely use them again.

The team at Blue Collar Roofing did a great job replacing my very complicated, very steep, 16-year-old roof, which was not properly installed by the original roofers and caused many leak problems, especially around the chimney area. Thanks to Blue Collar Roofers, I feel confident that my roof leak issues are over and the roof looks really beautiful! The team was very responsive to my needs, provided quality products and quality work in a timely manner at a reasonable price. They were very professional in every aspect. Shout out to Taylor, Manny and the crew - thanks for doing a great job! I would highly recommend Blue Collar Roofers.

We are so happy with our entire experience with Blue Collar Roofers! Right from the start, Chris did a great job walking us through their process and providing a quote. The workers were very professional. The roof looks great and they did a great job cleaning up after themselves. We would highly recommend Blue Collar Roofers to anyone looking to have a roof repaired or replaced.

10/10 Would recommend using Blue Collar Roofers if you are looking for a job to be done right and in a timely manner. I called at the end of the season in October to get a pretty extensive roof repair done but then opted for doing the whole roof because they were so reasonable on price. I really didn't expect them to be so responsive and easy to work with given how busy they are. They were already booked solid but due to the position I was in with winter coming Chris helped me out and squeezed me into the schedule. Once they arrived they finished in about 3-4 days. The expectations were set very clearly from the beginning and even though we found that the issues went beyond what I thought, Chris has discussed what the different outcomes would look like and I greatly appreciated Chris being upfront about those so the added costs didn't come off as some sort of upsell or bait and switch. (The old owner had built a roof on a roof so the plywood I thought was there was actually on top of cedar shake). Overall I couldn't be happier. The roof has been great and the old leak is completely gone. It looks great as well and I imagine is going to come in handy when I refinance my house this summer.

Questions & Answers

Can roofs be replaced during the winter?

Manufacturers typically state that a shingled roofing system can be installed in weather that is 40 degrees Fahrenheit or greater. The heat allows the shingles and the underlayments to properly adhere to each other and to the roof deck. However, we have found that the most important part of a winter installation is to keep the underlayments (i.e. ice and water) warm until it is applied. Therefore, we keep all of our ice and water in warm trucks before it is installed, which allows for proper application. As long as the ice and water is properly applied, the roof can be installed with a water tight seal.

We are a Master Elite contractor with GAF. Accordingly, 99% of our installations are with GAF HDZ shingles. There are many good brands on the market but we trust GAF shingles the most. GAF is the largest manufacturer of shingles in North America and it has a great warranty program to back up the installation.

How is important is ventilation when it comes to a roof?

Ventilation is one of the most important aspects of a roof installation. With a proper ventilated roof, you can avoid common pitfalls such as dry rot and condensation forming on the underside of the roof deck. A properly ventilated roof also helps in preventing significant ice dams, which are very common in upstate NY. Please call us with any additional questions or if you need a FREE estimate.
