Once every couple of years my husband and I stop at Linden on the way home from other, better wineries with nicer atmospheres. We stop only to buy a single, extremely over-priced, but delicious nonetheless, bottle of the Hardscrabble Red. This is the single redeeming quality of an otherwise unimpressive and inhospitable destination, and honestly, if they sold it at any stores near us, we wouldn't even bother with the winery. Having periodically visited them over the last 10 years both on weekdays and weekends, I can tell you they are never busy. Never ever have I seen more than one or two other parties present, and sometimes we are the only ones there. Despite that, they are quick to let you know as soon as you walk in to the mediocre wooden building, that you are welcome to pay for a tasting, but then you must leave. You see, you cannot stay to enjoy a glass of one of the wines you just paid to taste, unless you are a wine club member. At this point, we just wave them off and tell them we're only there to buy a retail bottle - and they're all smiles. "Ooohh, yes, spend your money here and don't expect a modicum of customer service", their look says. And, to our fault, we do give them our money. But the inhospitable, underwhelming atmosphere cannot be overstated. Even if you are a wine club member, all that gets you access to is a grubby little room with some windows and a few tables. Stone Tower or Breaux, this place is not! Reading some of the other reviews, they seem paid for. The ones that mention "oh, they were just so friendly as soon as we walked in and got us seated for our reservation right away" - those people are wine club members. They literally paid for the right to sit there, so don't be fooled. I hope this review helps people stay away from this place. There are so many other wineries in the area with delicious wine and food, who are happy to have you there. Don't waste your time at Linden.

This was my first time here. What a pleasant surprise compared to other wineries. So personal and quiet. Jim Law stopped by our table to pass on his inside knowledge (being the wine maker and owner). Becky was very personable and a great addition to the Linden family. Stacie was wonderful, very knowledgeable, and an absolute gem. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will return. Highly recommended a visit for those who want to learn and understand Virginia wines.

Concur with the other reviews that staff and management are incredibly and bafflingly rude and entitled. I don’t understand the business model. As nearby residents, I really hoped for a better local business model.Hi Patrick, Thank you for your feedback. I remember our interaction very well. You came in on a Sunday with two guests. We were very busy and you arrived without a reservation so we were unable to accommodate your request for a tasting. As a manager I do need to be firm from time to time but my intention is never to be rude. I am truly sorry for your experience. I hope you will consider making a reservation so we can give you the time, attention and service you deserve. We would love to share the history of our vineyard, the philosophy of our wine making and our delicious wines with you. Best, Jen Vann

Visited on a whim based upon a recommendation of a neighboring vineyard. Turned out to be our favorite wine and experience of our entire 5 day wine trip in VA. The staff was accommodating, knowledgeable, and passionate about the curated selection of our tasting. Purchased bottles to enjoy until we return again in the future!

Questions & Answers

Dear Jim, I am on the gala committee of the Barns of Rosehill in Berryville, Virginia. On October 16th. we will celebrate our 10th.anniversary Would you be interested in offering a tour and wine tasting for 6 people as an auction item? Roma

Hi Roma, Thank you so much for your question. A wine tasting for 6 is too large of a party for us to accommodate so unfortunately I will be unable to furnish your request. Thank you for understanding.

Do you serve food?
