My wife bought me a sushi π£ kit for anniversary, and thought this market would have all the necessary ingredients. And Boy was she right. Literally thought I stepped into Japan π―π΅ in this place, feels very authentic, and very Tokyo. You MUST know exactly what your looking for OR know how to read Japanese labels because to the untrained patron it can be a bit overwhelming. The fish π is fresh as can be, like A LOT of different types, fish eggs, seafood, octopus etc, packaged for individual size and priced pretty decent. The more rare fish will cost you, but its legit and looks beautiful. Meat department has the BEST Kobe beef slices, marinated chicken etc. Staff are fairly busy but will totally help you find what your looking for. (1 employee actually found a supervisor to help me find a honeydew soda..ππ) for what we paid its a lot cheaper than restaurants. I've become quite the sushi and udon chef since coming. I may never eat out again.

This place is a treasure !!, especially all the freshly made sushi & bentos at such great prices. Love the Japanese bakery too. Huge selections of Japanese snacks, ice creams & all. So happy to have found this place!!

A great grocery store to find Japanese/Asian ingredients. The cashiers are quick and friendly, so even if there's a line to check out, it will go quickly. Cute toys, dishes, gifts can be found here. Take time to explore this large store.

We had just found out that this location had a Tokyo Central (we normally go to the OC) and this place is closer to the house and wanted to check it out. This place is really nice, really clean, and spacious! The food selection here is great and the bento boxes are awesome!!! After we got our groceries, we ate at the food court section just right before you exit (and from the outside as soon as you enter) and relax after a hard day's shopping π€£π. Thank you so much Tokyo Central!!!

They opened this past Thursday, Aug. 16th.
Yes they do, you can find them in the pickle section. I think in this Tokyo central, it's in the back of the store on the far right, by the fish, under the pickles section.
They sell boiled bamboo shoots in the veggie section; that's as fresh as you can get, it comes one big one in an airtight bag with water in it. Some Tokyo Centrals also have a bag with three smaller bamboo shoots. Other than those, they sell whole shoots in a can, or the sliced canned ones you can find at any American grocery store. I always buy the big single shoot for cooking. Also in the frozen veggies, they sell mixed Japanese veggies in a bag that has the same kind of shoot cut up in it if you're looking for a variety of veggies.
Rarely or hardly ever.. except other Asian markets ie seafood city, 99ranch,etc
I sent Marukai an email to check, and it sounds like it may be August for the preopening, with grand opening either being August or September.
Yes, they are 20% off at 7 pm. They close at 9 pm.
Yes
Yes
Unsure, items are sometimes getting thin.
Yes till 7pm
The really big sushi trays you have to order in advance. But you could go there and just pick up a bunch of stuff that's pre-made. Bento boxes with chicken, salmon, beef, and then you can go to the sushi section and get things like sashimi and pokey the servings will be smaller but you can just take them apart and put on a platter and reserve it.
$1.89 the LB of the Okinawa Purple Potatoes.
Fresh Lunch items are usually out between 11-1115 daily
They have a deli and take out. Don't know about fried rice.
We used to get the frozen TAIYAKI from Hokkaido but it was seasoning supply. Different brands may be available but need to check the store from time to time.

During their grand opening there was a great deal more selection avalible. I do believe that it was avalible at the time, but since then the selection has been honed to accommodate sales values. The produce manager might be able to special order if avalible locally. Good luck.
I haven't seen a schedule for the holidays posted on the site. Unless you call them and ask

I saw a Ramen place so far, and they also have buffet style food by weight.
I have seen people apply in person at the service desk at the location in Costa Mesa. You could prob apply there for the new location or they can give info. Probably ought to give them a call before you go down there, tho'. Good luck!
According to the customer service, βThe Yorba Linda store will have a PRE opening sometime in August. The GRAND opening should be at the end of August or in September.β
