This is an honest review based on my experience at Extra Space on Laurel Street in Ventura. Although I was a loyal customer for almost 2 years and never missed a payment, I did not feel valued as a customer by this company. There is a large banner at the facility that advertises free rent for the first month and every time I would drive to the facility I wondered who exactly gets free rent for their first month because I did not receive free rent for my first month there. My rent was initially approximately $80/month for a 5’x10’ unit (11/2020). A few months after I moved in, intense windstorms came through Ventura. The drive up units are not well sealed and all of the contents of my unit got covered in dirt and debris. I have photos documenting all of this. Simultaneously, I received a 20% rent increase notice. All of my stuff was contaminated from the windstorms but Vicky (“she is no longer with the company”) was helpful in terms of moving me into an indoor unit. I tried to negotiate the rental increase especially since all of my items were drenched in dirt but I was told that the 20% increase was non negotiable. I was grateful for the new, cleaner unit so I accepted the increase even though it did not really feel like a win/win. Several months later, I received another 20% rent increase. Last month I received a rent increase notice of almost 70%. The new rent was to be $185/month (8/2022). I moved out of the storage unit 2 days ago. i did not feel valued as a customer by this company and they raised the rent by 110% over a 20 month period which feels like an unethical and greedy business practice. Now, my old unit is being advertised for $139 online… and the cycle will begin again. It definitely feels like this company is utilizing a non synergistic business model/strategy.

the staff are very friendly and helpful and the location & units are clean and well kept. it’s actually one of my favorite places i’ve had a storage unit because of its proximity to the beach & downtown. i have met lots of friendly tenants as well, all in all it is a lovely place to store your things :)

Great customer service from the time of inquiry to to meeting admin Dominique at the storage space located on Laurel in Ventura, California. Dominique greeted me with a warm smile and was extremely helpful with my storage needs from looking at the considered unit and the sign up paperwork. Dominique was very professional and great customer service. She treated me with kit glove care. She treated the business as her own and left me feeling welcomed, and knowing my storage items would be protected. Thank you Dominique for a wonderful experience. There are not many people that have the genuine desire to serve others. She is an asset to Extra Space Storage team.
