We stayed at Pirate and his Mermaid. House really needs work....kitchen drawers with "do not use" stickers because they're broken, ceiling paint coming off and ect. At check in we discovered our King bed was broken. Called Ward immediately and was told by the after hours operator since it was a holiday weekend (July 4th weekend) he wasn't sure when someone would be out to fix it. Family members couldn't come on the trip since we was a bed short. Ward finally sent someone on Tuesday evening, called on Saturday, only after I called a second time. They never offered any kind of credit/discount or anything for the trouble / poor customer service. They really screwed up our trip since we had some really disappointed family members who couldn't join us for the trip. Not sure we'd use Ward again in the future.

We love Ward!! Any issues we've come across they have sent someone out right away to rectify it immediately. Once when we stayed in a home the refrigerator door was not locking correctly, and things were getting warm inside. My husband fiddled with it himself and fixed it. In thanks, they came by with 2 bottles of wine for us. We prefer to book with Ward because of this careful attention they pay, because other rentals like Treasure will just ignore you or dismiss the issues.

We had a terrible experience with a VRBO property rented through Ward in October 2020. Our rental did not come with sheets or bath towels and Ward hid this in the fine print of our rental agreement. We were only made aware (by a very rude representative) when we called to request check in instructions that should have been given to us in advance and had not. Do not rent from this company. They are ripping off tourists and you’re better off at a hotel or somewhere else.

Yes. They send one out about a month in advance, but you can always see your bill in your account on their site. You must log in under rentals, guest login.
Refunds are given in a hurricane situation where the guest purchases travel insurance and there is a mandatory hurricane evacuation declared by State/Local authorities. Ward Realty uses Generali Global Assistance (at the time of this post) for travel insurance and this insurance can be purchased at the time of booking your reservation up until 30 days prior to arrival. Please note that travel insurance must be purchased before the named storm develops, and that any refund is given directly by the travel insurance company, once a claim has been filed by the guest and processed. Hi Joanne. Yes, short term vacation rentals are now allowed across Topsail Island. You can view our available homes online and call to reserve. We look forward to seeing you at the beach.
Unfortunately no one is allowed on the island right now - that means we cannot check in the homes yet. Once we are able to get on, we will evaluate Homes based on priority of the next check-in. We are in the process of sending emails to our upcoming guests and our owners today. Please be patient with us as we are also still in the dark.
We do not offer a special AAA discount, however many of our homes have special discounts going on thru the year. You can check the Specials & Discounts page to see last minute offers, cancellations, and other current discounts.
Yes - under ADA and HUD guidelines, we accept service dogs at our vacation homes. There is no fee for bringing a service dog as long as the trained dog is there to assist someone with a disability. We would like to point out that Ward Realty offers 3 distinct pet related categories for our rental homes - pet friendly (anyone can bring a pet), no pets (no tenant pets but owners may have pets), and pet free (no pets by anyone). All three categories are open to service dogs, but we ask that anyone with a service dog to please possibly consider the first two categories. The only reason is that someone who checking in immediately after and is highly allergic to dogs (and rented their particular home under the auspices of a pet free home) would not have a harmful reaction.
