Rosecliff is my favorite Newport mansion! The rooms are spacious, colorful and have great views of the ocean. The audio tour is also great so be sure to download the free app so you can enjoy hearing about the fascinating history of this magical place.

Beautiful mansion! Be sure to get the audio tour app and download the tours in advance (definitely worth listening to). We found that we had just enough time and energy to go through two houses and still check out the downtown area. The Rosecliff is beautiful and also currently has an exhibit on the top floor! Smaller than the Breakers, and quite different vibes, the rooms are a lot more open and light, very picturesque!

Not that nice house. The other mansions were more impressive

The Rosecliff is an absolutely majestic and beautifully designed mansion in Newport Rhode Island. During our honeymoon, which took place in the fall of 2018, I brought and treated myself and my wife for a visit and self guided tour of the Rosecliff. During our visit, we learned that the Rosecliff was built from 1898-1902, designed by the distinguished architect, Stanford White of the architectural firm, Mckim, Mead & White and it served as a major residence to Theresa Fair Oelrichs, an American socialite, daughter of James Graham Fair, a multimillionaire silver miner, and spouse to Hermann Oelrichs, a successful shipping magnate. Today, the Rosecliff serves as a historic house museum, listed on the National Register Of Historic Places and has been designated as a US National Historic Landmark District Contributing Property. What my wife and I loved about the Rosecliff was its distinct exterior facade, especially its white architectural terracotta tiles, as well as the mansion’s numerous furnishings and well-crafted large size fireplaces. Our favorite part of the Rosecliff is its magnificent ballroom. We learned that the ballroom was by Theresa Fair Oelrichs to host many lavish balls and celebrations. The ballroom has also been prominently featured in many films ranging from “The Great Gatsby” “True Lies” “Amistad” and the “High Society.” When vacationing in Newport Rhode Island, both my wife and I highly recommend that everyone stop by and visit this outstanding historic attraction!!!

There is an admission charge for each mansion. It is $25 and Rosecliff, in my opinion, isn't worth it. Go to The Breakers or Marble House of only doing one. Also you can buy a membership for $65 and it gets you into all mansions owned by the Preservation Society.

To build or to visit?
I can't say for sure but you picked our favorite Mansion that is in Newport. Its because it fully furnished from antiques from the past. To answer your question though try calling the mansion directly. I will try too to check for. FYI have you been to any of the other Mansionsthey are awesome as well. Yes
It was owned by Theresa Fair Oelrichs. However the last private owners were Mr & Mrs J Edgar Monroe.
