The views are fantastic if you end up with a balcony room and the location is fairly quiet being that you're a few minutes off of the main road. The view and location are the only reason this place gets 2 stars in my opinion. Check in was easy enough, you get a traditional key to your room. The room itself was unique to the time period the hotel was built in which I though was pretty cool, a bit like stepping into a time capsule. I think that's about where the fun wore off for me. The balcony outside the sliding door (which barely worked to get open) was questionable at best to keep you from tumbling over the edge. No chairs on the balcony to enjoy the views. As per typical European buildings, the balcony was covered which is great if the weather isn't fantastic but you'd still like to enjoy the air. There was a neat changing/powder room area between the bedroom and the bathroom. We didn't have any need to use it but I did appreciate the classic styling. As for the bathroom, I would say it got a $500 makeover in the last couple of years. Half of that budget was spent on silicone caulking and paint. Area behind the toilet wasn't painted and the caulking had so many gap, cracks and runs in it I'd say it was someone's first try at it. The rest of the budget was spent on poorly installed tile. The shower and toilet were functional but don't expect anything to look like it was installed or maintained by a professional. The whole facility could use 2 full time, skilled carpenters/master repair people. I'm sure they could work 50-60 hours a week all year and still have plenty to do. This place needs a complete overhaul, not that the styling needs to change, but the maintenance of the windows, doors, vents, steps, balcony's, roofs and so much more need a tremendous amount of work. Unfortunately the Fritz restaurant and bar was closed (6/2022) which was a real downer. Unless you're feeling like you're in shape, you won't be walking downtown to get dinner or have a few drinks. I certainly would have settled for 'just' the bar being open. The bed was okay, nothing to write home about. The pillows....my goodness. I'm certainly above average in shoulder width and I could use a pillow maybe half as thick. Thankfully the AC in the room (window unit) seemed to work just fine and kept us cool overnight. Checkout was quick and easy thankfully, we didn't sleep well with the super thick pillows and what seemed like paper thin walls so we left fairly early. Overall a very disappointing overnight for the money ($250 w/tax and fees). If it was $100/night, I'd feel like it was an okay deal...Just take your money and go book at Vontrapp Family Lodge.

It was excellent for many reasons. First and foremost was the location of The Stowehof, in Stowe Vermont. Makes you feel like you are in Switzerland. Secondly, the service, the hotel itself was so beautiful in a rustic, quaint way which perfectly blended to the beautiful scenery. Thirdly, the room and the place was so peaceful and quiet. Even if there are people, you don't hear anything when you are in the room. The receptionist who welcomed us was so friendly and helpful. And most of all, the lobby had games, and free flowing coffee, tea and hot chocolate all day long!!! Amazing stay and I'll definitely comeback to the Stowehof next time I'm in Vermont again. Thank you!!!

We had an overall great stay! Beautiful views, nice hot tub, complimentary coffee in the mornings, and plenty of areas to walk our dog. We enjoyed the various lounge areas as well. No housekeeping though, and the king bed is actually just two twin mattresses pushed together so wasn’t the most comfortable with a gap down the middle.

Really charming hotel! Not new and sparkly, but has lots of character and original design elements, which we loved. The common areas are great, really stunning sunset views and several private nooks to retreat to in the large main room. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, both before and during our visit and the Fritz bar/restaurant was quaint and yummy. The only downsides were the bed pillows and sheets, which were low quality (new, but cheap) and the in-room bathrooms, which were very lightly updated and therefore felt a bit unclean.

1.9 miles. About 4min drive. And 30 min walk if your a power walker and a 10- 20 min run for a ave person .
We did not eat there. We had breakfast once. We ate out you pay for meals. They have a map to surrounding restaurant.
