I am a long time blood donor if it’s whole blood, plasma and or platelets, and lately it is unnerving going there and more so today as late November I got bruised badly at Torrance American Red Cross that it took three weeks to heal and today trying to donate platelets to press on from that experience, only to freeze in panic as the same phlebotomist who bruised me was there with a young phlebotomist and the more experienced phlebotomist there promising me he would not bruise me as I told him what happened in late November of getting bruised here, yet saying to me my veins are small, most of my reluctance was I was in no mood to get bruised and yet not sure was arm I wanted to squeeze and get the return as I really prefer the single needle donation than the double needle Which made me get up apologize saying I can’t do this and I left before the two jabs as they got the apheresis equipment set up and it was ready to go I then think it’s time for me to go on hiatus for now on blood donations, whole, plasma and or platelets It’s sad as the supply of blood, plasma and platelets are in strong need now

I have waited loooonnnggggg only to have had the following experience: 1. Zero effort to find my veins was non-existent.....I was so dissapointed. I get calls and texts about donating and then this.....literally palpated twice and said sorry.....zero effort. 2. Privacy. The person doing my initial intake in the privacy rooms didn't close the door. When another staff came to close for privacy, she says "no I need air." The door is closed by the other staff and says "no we don't do that here." When the door is closed, the intake phlebotomist says out loud, "that's why I hate coming to this center." This phlebotomist anbviously forgot her HIPPA rules. I've donated many times before and have had no problems.

A good place to give blood. My only complaint is that they are not organized, just getting to the point where you are ready to give blood takes way too long. My 16 year old daughter was giving blood and I was there to give my permission. Not once did they tell us, when we made the appointment, nor when we confirmed the appointment, that she needed to have a picture I'd. They also weren't prepared with the proper paperwork. With some organization and training the experience of giving blood would go much more smoothly.

Wait times long even w/ empty tables & staff standing around. I donate to help others. I don't get paid to donate. But, intake staff are almost pushing you away... especially if you're a walk-in & don't have appointment. Donation hours are limited... There's no accommodation for early or late day donors make donating difficult.

Not through the Red Cross
I'm sorry, what?
Not at this location. You will need to contact the Red Cross at 1.800.REDCROSS or go on redcrossblood.org and click the tag that says "take a class". Good Luck!
