This is a beautiful stretch of beach for birding and it is dog friendly. Black oystercatchers and tons of cliff swallows can be found on Greyhound Rock. Make sure to walk south a little to see Pelican Rock, thriving with cormorants, guillemots, and, of course, pelicans.

One of the issues about the beaches along Highway 1 when traveling between Santa Cruz and San Francisco is the fact that anything next to the road is usually crowded as heck. The Greyhound Rock Spot is a protected area and absolutely beautiful without all the random people to ruin your experience. To top it off if you don’t know where it is or have it plugged in to your GPS I can guarantee you that you’ll probably miss the sign for it. Just remember there’s no service for cell phones so make sure to load up the directions to get here before you’re on the road.

What a great hidden, somewhat, treasure . . . it's a bit of a trek down but well worth the hike. A couple of Elephant Seals on the beach was a highlight, the Ranger said they had just shown up that morning ☺️

I had a wonderful morning exploring this beach. On a foggy summer weekday, it was nearly deserted - which is a good thing. If you like our rugged California seashore, with steep cliffs and tide pools (which are really in abundance to the north near Las Trancas Beach), then you’ll like this beach. There’s a free parking lot and a paved path to the beach, so it’s very accessible.

Yes they are allowed on leash.
I have a couple times, at the picnic tables. We thought it was allowed, never saw any signs saying you can't. The homeless who live in their vehicles sure bbq. I will have to check for signs next time I go. Not looking to get a ticket, or whatever the punishment would be.
