The White Oak nature trail at Lake Kegonsa state park is a good short hike for families. An interpretive brochure is available at the trail head and sign posts along the trail help explain what you're seeing. There is a small playground and a restroom next to the trailhead parking. Also connects to a prarie habitat trail.

I love visiting this park for a quick after-work or between-errands walk through the prairie. There is a flat grassy trail area and then a trail or two through the woods, which has a couple of small hills. Every trail is well marked and numbered, so you always have an idea of where you’re going.

Such a relaxing state park to camp at. Dogs are very much welcomed. Beautiful camp ground and wonderful campers to meet there. Highly recommend, they have a large verity of campsite and sizes. Lots of wildlife there.

Beautiful mature trees & campsites are spread out nicely. Shower facilities clean. Nice walking paths & playgrounds. Kids love the off-path area with tree-built fort. Quiet & peaceful place- LOTS of bathrooms, which is a bonus, although pit toilets are not cleaned often/well enough. We saw cleaning person walk in & out quickly- even they couldn't stand the smell!

They make money on admission stickers so depending on how much you were looking to donate you could buy a bunch of those. Then donate the stickers to a local charity/fundraiser so more people can enjoy the parks.
Yes, you need a pass
When I was there it looked like all extras are still shut down. Camping, bathrooms, a person in the office. I'm not sure when it's opening fully again but you might do better right now looking a bit further away from Madison area
Devils Lake is not too far from Kegonza and I did a fair amount of Winter camping there. At that time, only the Quartzite camp sites were available for winter camping.
Sort of! Really, you just want to get as far away from big cities as possible, and this is nice, but there are far better places.
? Call.
Dogs are allowed on 2 of the 3 trails. They are not allowed on the white oak nature trail.
