Loved it. Gorgeous lake. Very windy at times. But beautiful landscape. Some higher density camping loops - not so great for tents. But pretty friendly people. Fishing wasn’t so great from the shore but you can rent boats. $28/night for a basic site (plus state parks or day pass) was tall but still ok. Hiking in the area too. Overall, great. Better fishing in the canyon, though!

CONS: 1) NOT worth the $28. 2) Bad roads- There are to ways to get to Howbert Point (we were in site 709). The first one we took is to drive 18 miles from Florissant on US24. But once you leave US24 you must drive about 12 miles on a dirt road that is a washboard. You have to slow down to 10 MPH. The other way is to drive 1 mile from Florissant and take a left. That road is shorter and MUCH better maintained because there are many houses in that area. 3) Mosquitos- Site 709 is right next to the lake and flat but there were too many mosquitoes and there were no trees. We had to stay in the RV because of the mosquitos- the "Off" spray we used didn't faze them. PRO: But, along the road we saw horses, cows, llamas, donkeys, deer, geese, ducks, cranes, and mosquitos.

Gorgeous state park with over 230 campsites on both sides of the reservoir. Swimming is not permitted, but boating (including powered) and fishing are. Watch out for the men who feel the need to open carry multiple pistols in broad daylight in a busy campground. The campsites are kind of pricey at $28 and you also need a parks pass ($9 daily, $80 annual), so it will be nice next year when the parks pass is included in car registrations for $30. We had a great time paddleboarding here. We will definitely return!

This is one of the best state park to go paddle-boarding, the water is clean, the lake is huge, they have small island of rocks that you can visit and stop by. And what we attracted the most was a small island with a lot of different kind of birds, your eyes will fill with these beautiful birds, though you can't go and walk on that island but you can paddle nearby.

I was fishing two weeks ago, and believe it or not I saw two people on jet skis. Just make sure you have a wet suit, the water can be very cold at times.
There is also backcountry camping available if you want to be just outside the reservoir area
It was pretty great while we were there, bring some pink and flourescent Tasmanian devil lures and you'll catch some monsters
Not at the park but check with chaparral park general store he has some lodging in Hartsel.
You can see pictures of the view if you go to the Colorado state park website and book through them 🙂
Yes you can. But it gets windy at times
You can sailboat, 11 mile is ALWAYS windy. Very windy. Boating hours 1/2 hour before dusk, 1/2 hour after dawn. One lake for sailboating would be Pueblo Reservior.
No you cannot swim according to their website. You can go to eleven mile canyon and play in the river
