Horrible experience every time I’ve come here. Impossible to get on the phone with and their website doesn’t even work. When you come in the morning right when they open be prepared to wait 15 or 30 minutes before they actually unlock the door.

Outside of the wait times and the annoyance of having to deal with the appointment system, the staff is usually pretty nice and helpful. The appointment system is terrible though, for people like me who have teenagers that need appointments also. You can only schedule one appointment per email address, and they are usually a month or more out at a time.

I had to stay late for work called the dmv on Hamilton letting them know that I had to stay late and if they could move my appointment later on in the afternoon. I told them it's just a lience replacement because my wallet was stolen. They said no. So I just showed up there to wait to see if I could be seen but nope they said that they were short staffed .well if I tell them I can't pay the money to keep my license because I was short staffed and I will get back to them in 2 weeks how do you think they will responded to that .?????,? Well guys I am sorry that you are understaffed but us lesser people of this world depends on you to be helpful

Before you come to see us, practice, practice practice... that's the best way to do well on the driving test. Remember we're not here to make this difficult. We want you to succeed, but we also want you to be safe. We use a couple of different routes, but the all have similar skill requirements.

You would need to make an appointment to come in to the service center. You can make an appointment at https://iowadot.gov/service-selector. If the one you misplaced is a valid Iowa driver's license, you won't need to bring anything with you. We can verify your identity with information you provide us when you come in.

An appointment confirmation should be sent within 5 minutes of making the appointment to the email you entered when making the appointment. Be sure to check your junk mail.

I am retiring to SD from the military. I have established our permanent address in Box Elder, but we travel full time and are closer to Sioux City. Do I have to get my DL from the county where my address is, or can any office in SD help me?

If you have an Iowa Driver's License, you would need to go to an Iowa driver's license service center or county treasurer. You can go to any driver's license service center or county treasurer in the state of Iowa.
